Both are romantic comedies and i really enjoyed each of the them. The main characters are both hard working girls who never give up. The main character Hikari in Special A, is similar to Tohru in that matter. Not only that, but they are continously wishing to make people other than themselves, happy. A major difference, however, is Hikari can't cook for crap, while Tohru is a fairly talented cook. Please don't let this fact sway youre decision. :)

Both stories have a little drama and involves school. Special A is more about what is happening at school. Both are "SPECIAL" in a different sense. Fruits basket is special because the sohma family turn to an animal of their zodiac if they are hugged by the opposite sex (that is not part of the sohma family). Special A is special because they are in a special class. The students in that special class are not only genius students but they are also filthy rich students. You will find them funny and mysterious like the sohma family that lives with Tohru Honda. Hope you like

it has similar caracters and is a nice anime i would say its good but thats my opion cuz when i read coments i say naa then i end p watching them than say wat was i thinking lol

Ok, I know this is a weird suggestion but id like to explain.
+In Special A, Hikari and Kei are alway competing for 1st place and in Fruits Basket Kyo and Yuki are always competing for 1st place.
+They are also really sweet and i find that they are good for beginners in watching anime.
+They both have extremely unique characters that have troubled pasts
