Both are about a mage summoning a familiar who happens to be a humanoid character. In Familiar of Zero, the mage girl is a bad student who summons the MC, a boy, from Japan to their world, making this an Isekai. In Vermeil in gold, the MC, an innocent boy with very potent mana summons a hot demon girl. Both shows are ecchi and the relationships between the summoner and the familiar can lead up to a lot of awkward moments and gain the attention of other girls and students of the respective magical academies.

Both have the same MC who were students at a magical academy whose requirements is to have it's students summon a familiar, however the MC has several times failed to summon one until one comes along but instead of a familiar it is someone whom they form a relationship with.

Before I begin, I do like Zero no Tsukaima but I like Kinsou no Vermeil much better. Now onto why they are similar and I'd recommend it. 1) Both anime's worlds are based on magic and both are based around school. 2) Both have a system for ranking how strong each mage is. Whether it be with squares or ranks/shapes 3) Both have main characters who have to summon something in order to pass their schooling. 4) Both main characters and summons are not quite what they appear to be. 5) In each anime both sets of main characters work their way up their world's rankings systems while   read more

This anime is 95% similar to 'Familiar of the Zero' which is one of my all time favourite anime, Both animes have almost same scenarios where the MC is teen and studying at a Hogwarts like school summoning a familiar and having a relationship between each other.. I would recommend anyone who's watching this anime should check out that one if you haven't already..
