He has resided in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan since 2003, and has hosted his own television programs, Rock Fujiyama and Jukebox English on Japanese television.
He has become a major force in the Japanese music scene, playing lead guitar in the bands of some of the country's most famous performers such as Nanase Aikawa. He also collaborated with famous j-pop and j-rock musicians such as KOTOKO and Nana Kitade. Marty Friedman is also the producer of the Japan-based American heavy metal band Animetal USA, formed as a tribute to Eizo Sakamoto's (original) Animetal.
