well maybe not the best comparison, but it's a little hard because although Rainbow has 20 volumes there is only 3 chapters translated ... while Ashita no Joe it's completed with 20 volumes but only has 55 chapters translated, at the moment (april 11, 2010) but so far these two are similar because they in a juvenile prison, and they are in prison because they tryed to help someone and/or some petty crimes to survive in the hard times they are living! they also try to escape from prisone in both manga's and they are come across a boxer, and because of that they begin to train. while  read more

Both about struggling in Juvenile Prison.

Distorted justice, wading through unfairness filled to the brim, these protagonists don't have time to catch a break during their time in prison. Surviving the harsh circumstances is only possible for those with a will of steel...

They both have a group of teenager male protagonists that are very likable and unique. And they are both in prisions of a kind that both try to get out of. However they differ from being a drama and a comedy.

VERY mature seinens about a difficult time in Japan (after a massive cholera epidemic, after the end of WWII), and boys (brothers, fellow inmates) who must face incredibly brutal and cruel hardships at the hands of circumstances, and evil people. The only ones they can trust are themselves. That trust is the only real warmth in the series. Have lots of violence and rape. Art style is similar.

Male bonding in prison between a bunch of teenagers with distinct & differing personalities, and unlikely friendships are forged. Apocalypse no Toride has zombies as well.
