Used to watch dub quite a bit of times especially for older shows, but if I want to complete the things I start, I need to go sub to get those specials/other entries completed or else who knows how long I'd need to wait and I rather not keep things stacking up unfinished.

Usually sub. There isn't any justifiable reason for me to pick dub over sub usually. Although shows like Cowboy Bebop and Saiki K have exceptionally good dubs, so honestly I wouldn't mind either way.
No justifiable reason lol? What if I enjoy dubs more than subs

Sorry, I phrased that very badly lol. Sometimes I do enjoy the dub of an anime more than the sub. But otherwise, I stick to sub because why bother watching it in dub? It detracts from the overall experience IMO.

I started watching anime in dub but after a while, I started to get more used to anime and I transitioned into watching sub because I was tired of being like 3 episodes behind on new shows compared to sub watchers.

So long story short, yes I only watch anime in sub now but I didn't start out that way.

Looks like I have to apologize instead. I didn't see "for me" in the 2nd sentence

Yes, because the dubs are uncomfortable, cringe, and make my eardrum bleed.

English dub on anime is inherently grating.

Always the original language. Don't really see why I would subject myself to an often cheaply made dub

i have watched around 4 dubs since 2020 before i moved fully to sub. the dubs i have seen have been amazing

one thing in dub that is annoying is the overly enthusiastic female characters, equally as annoying as some of the unnecessarily high pitched women in subs

if i were to rewatch a comedy anime i would probably watch it in dubbed though

Not at all. Brazillian dubs are the best in the world after the japanese ones. Whenever there's a nice dub i always check it out.

Probably 95% these days. The other 5% being shows I'm rewatching from when I was younger.

I only watch in sub because I just don't get the same vibes from the voice actors as I do in sub. The only exception for this was Cowboy Bebop that was no doubt the best dub I've ever heard honestly other than that, I wouldn't really watch any other anime in dub.

I watched quite a bit of dub back when I was watching all the anime on netflix, where you could easily switch languages. But yeah since then I don't consider watching in dub at all- UNLESS I hear lots of good things about it. Like I'm probably going to watch Baccano in dub.

I probably watch sub like 90% of the time usually when I am watching anime on my laptop, but if I am watching it on tv like Toonami then I will watch the dub or I would also watch it in dub when I went to this anime club I was while in university.

The last time I watched a dub was the old 1984 Macross, in Mandarin. It was broadcast on local TV and I was like, ten years old? Oh, but I also watched Robotech, which is ... a bit like a dub of Macross? in English, also on local TV. Oh and I can still recall Doraemon dubbed in Mandarin haha. I've not watched it in Japanese so somehow it feels natural to hear the dub.

Well, that's all 1990s stories. I'm glad I get to enjoy everything since then with subs. I agree with everyone who says the original voice acting is something to appreciate and enjoy. I'm not saying the dubs are bad (they could well be superior, I don't know cause I've never wanted to try), but it's a different product, I guess.

Dubs only work if there is a lot of swearing and it suits the plot more (Black Lagoon, Gantz, Oedo) or if they are so bad they elevate an otherwise forgettable anime (Ghost Stories, Garzey's Wing, Yu-Gi-Oh GX).

So I prefer sub in general.

No, I did that for the longest time but as I grew older and wiser and lazier (and dub quality started to increase) that changed I actually mostly stick to dubs these days. It's either that or not watch anime at all anymore.
I probably regret this post by now.

the only anime ill watch in dub are the ones i watched as a kid, so lucky star, hetalia and black butler, but i wont watch anything in dub now unless im curious about what they decided they wanted their english voiced to sound like lmao. i think ive only done this for osomatsu-san so far since the cringe voice acting is somewhat character-accurate lol

Yes, only with the original audio. I'd rather not to watch an anime than watching it dubbed.

These kinds of threads always scary me, do people really like watching anime?
"I watch dubbed because I want to do something else while I'm watching anime"

Can't you guys spare 20 minutes and actually watch the show?

You got a point, ngl. Even then; it's not even that hard to multitask watching subbed anime. You just need to be able to read fast.

I almost always watch anime subtitled. I prefer to hear the original audio, and I tend to enjoy the voice actors much more anyways. o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ

I used to have much more of a mix between sub and dub but it's shifted to mostly subbed anime now. *^__^*
That being said, there are a few dubs I quite like.

Either way I believe that if you're able to, it's best to try watching something in it's original language. But I guess that's all personal preference. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

I watch subs mostly but I'm getting pretty busy with exams and projects at the moment. So I've been watching a lot of dubs as a way of multitasking whilst doing my work.

Although, I do sometimes watch dub if I'm really lazy to read.

Most of the time, I'll watch an anime subbed. But there are occasions I can get irritated with the voice acting in some titles in Japanese (most notably with seiyuu going too overboard with trying to act cute with some female moe/ cute characters) where I switch to a dubbed version so it's more bearable to listen to.

In a few instances though, there are a few titles I seen in my younger days of fandom where I have such a strong attachment to the English dub for them (Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Digimon, Dragon Ball) that I have a personal preference to listen to them dubbed.

Well not 100% of the time, I've seen 1 anime dubbed (not counting stuff I watched when I was a kid) and that was a terrible mistake never happening again... unless I watch ghost stories I suppose.

Always sub bcs I think an anime loses its meaning when I watch dub (a personal opinion I don't want to offend anyone ) and I want to respect seiyuu's work by watching sub

i used to only watch with sub because when i started watching anime i didn't speak english and there wasn't any dubbed anime in my native language so it always just felt righ but lately sometimes i'm choosing dub, mostly when i just want to put sth in the background and can't read every dialogue. i'm still much more comfortable with original japanese with subtitles tho

I used to watch almost everything subbed only, now I watch almost everything dubbed only. Priorities change. Also dubs got much better (and their releases much quicker) so that helps as well.
I probably regret this post by now.

Yes, far from watching the dub, I would rather push myself to watch the original unsubbed. There's just no getting around the fact that some japanese concepts, mannerisms etc don't translate well into english, once you start picking up on that watching the dub is like watching a foreigner pretend to be japanese while speaking english, if that makes any sense (well either that or you get a completely different performance than the source material)

I'd say 99%+ subbed. I find it hard to get over how cringe animated speaking sounds when it's in a language I understand at a fluent level, so when it's in Japanese I won't realize exactly how unnatural it sounds. Also sometimes translations get localized to a point where it really stands out in the dub, whereas it wouldn't be as noticeable/annoying if it was just subbed.

Most of the anime I've seen were subbed but I think both are great, and sub-only watchers need to settle down.
