| I'm very confused - what does the OP really wants to talk about? Is it about fanservice and how it interacts with the show's quality? Anyway, both sexual and non-sexual fanservice do not get in the way of a show being good, there are tons of examples. (but the elitists deny them) |
| I stopped nitpicking on fanservice a long time ago .. I don't mind it and sometimes even like it .. And looking at it from the business perspective , It completely makes sense.. |
| I'm pretty numb to fanservice, but I do notice if it's the main part of the screen drawing my attention. Fanservice can change the tone of a series. It's often unnecessary, but can sometimes be funny. If the main objective of a show is fanservice, then it's ok. But if the main objective is something else but instead takes so much time out for fanservice, it becomes a problem. |

| "Fanservice" basically refers to anything that is unnecessary to the story but is there only to "service" the fans (so essentially the entire adaption could be seen as "fanservice"). Tits are fanservice (tits do need to exist, but they're often used in ways you wouldn't see in real life. Anime tit sizes don't follow the natural bell curve of real life, at least not in any one series), fights are fanservice, dancing is fanservice (you don't really need to see it to understand the story), and a whole bunch of other stuff is fanservice. As people will often note moe is a type of fanservice. Fanservice is a great tool and it keeps the viewers engaged. |

| For me fanservice makes bad shows watchable and good shows even better. It creates funny situations and gives me more insight of the personality of the character no matter if male or female. And it's nice to look at as well :3 |

| I'm okay seeing Plots from time to time, but if Plots become something like a running gag in a certain anime/manga, It usually ruins my mood and become the main reason of me dropping something. Some of us just want Plots, not Plots!! |

They're an essential part of any anime and they totally don't ruin the premise in genres they don't belong to. It can be fitting for some shows and it can be executed in non-intrusive ways, but that's a rare artform nowadays it seems. |

| My point of view is that I've been doing fine my whole anime career mostly avoiding anything with too much sexual fanservice. Still managed to accumulate a good amount of shows, much more than just 1% of all anime. |

| Depends on the type of show and how it is handled. It's a difference of the Major showing off some skin (or rather walking around barely clothed) in GitS, and the girls from To Love Ru, which suck on a phallic shaped object every 20 seconds. Fanservice was always present in anime, and while it doesn't bother me in particular, it is disappointing to see things like lingerie being more detailed than the general character design in the show. |
