Is there a disparity between the two?

After seeing 300 or so anime, it is probable that you may begin to identify utterly shit-same series that you've seen many times before. Character archetypes and designs are even more easily identifiable in terms of structure. Therefore, if an elitist were to favor such A character over more properly developed ones (from a probably better series), would he/she still have the quality of being an elitist?
