| Ok here is a question... do you think that the extremely rapid decline of Byzantine power that followed the death of the most prestigious, influential and daring member of the Comnenian dynasty, aka Manuel, was somehow his mistake? Well IMO the severity of the decline leaves little doubt that Manuel did sth wrong... and his adventurous character may have strained the empire... but that can't be it, because even till the day he died the empire was extremely rich and influential, then... somehow... it all went to hell... so what was his mistake(or mistakes)? |
