Why do people usually rank the first season of a certain scientific railgun their least favourite season?

I gave all the seasons the same rating lol. But I think it’s mostly because the first 3 eps weren’t the best and it was too focused on slice of life.

Personally I just think the other two are AMAZING and this one is just GREAT😂 I still love it, just prefer the other two.

Also if I think all the seasons of Railgun are better than any season of Index (fuck index) so there's that

I think the story archs are better in the 2nd, but that character, world building and character interaction is better in the 1st. I did give the 2nd a lower rating based solely on the Accerator arch's pacing feeling out of whack in my opinion. I found those episodes hard to sit through for some reason. Other than that, I think they are on equal footing, but for different reasons. Season one does have an 8/10 though, I wouldn't consider that a bad score.

Thought this one was very good and the other two were great. This is the foundation for the rest and I think I would be pretty surprised if anyone said this was their favorite season. This season hadn’t really mastered the sol and action of later seasons but I still really liked it. Some episodes were extremely slow and boring even for me who is a moe moe moe kawai piece of shit

Easy. Because “Level Upper” is very good (Arc based from the manga) and the other 13 Episodes are completely Anime original content. And very bad and poorly written. That’s why people did not really like it.
The same happened in Season 2 after “Sister”, the rest is Anime original. And another poorly executed excuse of a plot.
Season 3 fixed those mistakes by faithfully following the manga which is why the last Season is far superior in quality.

It's not that bad, but I personally didn't really like the first season. Plus, railgun S and T are just so much better

It adapts the weakest Railgun manga arc and is filled with fillers so much, a lot of viewers will feel sleepy. Making a good SoL is no easy task, but Nagaispace Railgun tries hard to use CGDCT formula in a shonen show... Not to mention Kuroko at her most despicable form.
Big Spider and Poltergeist are decent anime only arcs though, and a lot better than the Silent Party abomination of an arc.

Because My expectations weren’t met. I had high expectations since I watched the 1st season of index and when watching the first season of Railgun I was disappointed. It was ok. I did enjoy it at some parts but for most of the season It wasn’t that intresting. But Railgun S and T I have a 9-10 because those are amazing.

I personally prefer the first season of the Railgun anime. Its Slice of Life moments as-well as the Level Upper arc are some of my favourite moments from the franchise as a whole.

The seasons following it are great too though.

1. It's mostly because of the additional filler content most of which is quite boring, the Railgun manga was released back in 2007 while the anime was made in 2009 so there wasn't much content for a full 24 episode season.

2. Its the least faithful season to the source material, JC Staff took a lot of liberties changing certain events and rearrange scenes which damages the continuity and timeline. E.g. On episode 8 its July 19th the night she bumps into Touma in Index but instead they changed it so Misaka encounters someone else which throws the continuity out of balance.

3. Speaking of changes from the source material JC Staff change some of the characters behaviour which makes them look more inconsistent. The flanderization of Kuroko is the most notorious she was always a pervert in the manga but that was like 5% of her character in the anime they cranked it up to 80%. They also made the MC Misaka more of a hero of justice instead of showing her childish flaws.

4. Fanservice, season 1 has the most out of all of them and the majority of the time its surplus to requirements, it felt like JC Staff were going out of their way to please fans but they were over doing it and it came across as pandering when the story was fine without it. They leant their lesson when they adapted the next two seasons.
