Life is but a Dream "A boat, beneath a sunny sky Lingering onward dreamily In an evening of July Children three that nestle near, Eager eye and willing ear, Pleased a simple tale to hear Long has paled that sunny sky; Echoes fade and memories die; Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise, Alice moving under skies Never seen by waking eyes. Children yet, the tale to hear, Eager eye and willing ear, Lovingly shall nestle near. In a Wonderland they lie, Dreaming as the days go by, Dreaming as the summers die; Ever drifting down the stream Lingering in the golden gleam Life, what is it but a dream?"
-Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson)
~Intro~ A tomboyish girl named Koto, and her brothers, A and Un, accidentally crash down into the “mirror capital” named Kyoto while chasing a black rabbit. In this weird city that models itself after the old medieval Kyoto, Koto discovers her three long-lost siblings that have been trapped in the city for a long time, waiting for their parents to come back. Follow Koto as she tries to mend broken family ties and reunite the family once more, all the while getting into all sorts of trouble. Kyousogiga, based off of "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) and riddled with references to Buddhism, is without a doubt one of the most original anime to date. This series finally got its full 1-cour series in Fall 2013, after a rather random and perplexing 5 ONA series that left viewers with many questions in 2012. Both fans and newcomers are welcome onboard the craze for Kyouso Giga (Capital Craze)!!
~Kyousougiga the Show~ Life moves on at a relentlessly fast pace and the time eventually comes when we ourselves have to take the next step in our lives. If this means for you to let go of the one you once loved, to get your very first job or move onto another, to dream anew for a new life, or to sacrifice something for a better life, you must take that next step eventually. Time moves without consideration, and too often we sometimes fall behind and try to stick to the past. Getting out of the comfort zone is what we instinctively hate to do, and it makes it even harder when society pressures and forces us out of the comfort zone. Kyousougiga tells the story of the love and rebirth of a certain family, but it also explores this process of getting out of our comfort zones to "move on."
With all these stories of growing up, it only fits that the show would recite verses from the poem mentioned above, "Life is But a Dream," by Lewis Carroll. There always comes a time when children eventually leave their nests to transition into adulthood. Kyousougiga goes beyond the importance of familial bonds to tell stories of the children (and the parents) "leaving their nests" to take the next step into the future. What starts out as a seemingly crazy show aimed to excite the crowd with its over-the-top shenanigans ends with a surprisingly warm message and valuable lesson to the viewers.
