.hack//Legend of the Twilight takes us into a future four years after the events of the PlayStation 2 games. Since the events of those games Kite and Black Rose had become legends in their time. Their avatars in The World have since been retired, but they cannot rest as all is not well in the massively multiplayer game world. Hackers and bugs have begun to take over... Palm trees float in the air, players think nothing of hacking items and armor to match their whims, and monsters are popping up in all the wrong places; but worst of all are the players that find themselves falling into comas and being hospitalized after playing the game. As a result, Aura takes it upon herself to resurrect the two heroes of .hack. Shugo and Rena are depressed twins. The pair was separated after their parents' divorce. Shugo sent to live with their father and Rena with their mother. With miles separating the two, Rena signs herself and Shugo up for the chance to win a free set of limited edition avatars for the online world.
