She fell in love in magic when she was little, during a festival, as she walked on lighting cobblestone. That day she met a strange witch that sold her a magic grimory and a pen with ink. Years later, a flying carriage arrives in her village. However, children trying to look at it destroyed. Thankfully, the witch Qifrey was visiting Coco's shop at that time and he offered to fix the coach. He asked Coco to guard the door, as he wanted to be discreet while practicing magic, but, curious, the little girl climbs on the roof to study the witch. She then learns that magic isn't hereditary, but that anyone with a pen and ink can do it by drawing specific symbols. She then remembers the book she bought years ago and decides to do magic that very evening. After a few tries, she ends up using a powerful spell turning her house and her mother into stone. She barely escaped it herself as Qifrey, suspicious of her behavior, came to check on her. Qifrey tells her she used forbidden magic and he should erase her memories, but he decides instead to take her as his apprentice and become a witch to find a way to save her mother.
