She is one of the Earth Forces "Extended Humans" (enhanced through drugs and surgery in order to crate a living weapon) and can be either very calm and gentle or crazed and violent. Her memories have been altered in order to allow her to fight battles without any emotion. Because of her modifications, she quickly changes from being calm and happy to panicked and crazed. She was mentally conditioned to fear the concept of death, and even the slightest suggestion that she might die is enough to send her flying into a panicked rage the likes of which can only be calmed by Shinn Asuka or Neo Roanoake.
