Sitting down to watch the K-On! Movie, I realize that I have a love/hate relationship with KyoAni. I love their stuff and hate to admit it because most of what they've been doing lately is considered Moeblobs.

Nothing wrong with that, I just... how do I put it? I hate when there's a ton of shows out there and the one thing that will catch my attention is a moeblob slice of life. I hold no grudges against K-On! it's a good show for those of us who can handle it. I just wonder what they were thinking when they decided to let Little Busters be taken by J.C. Staff when many a fan wanted that title to go to KyoAni.

I'm sure KyoAni has a plan for next season, and I hope it's good, because when you put out something like Nichijou (I only gave the show 2 episodes to impress, it didn't) there's something wrong.

The K-On! Movie was actually very good. In fact, I would say it was as good a quality as Disappearance. There were a few scenes that made less sense than others, but that's just me. Overall, it was a good ride. Which again, leads me to the love/hate relationship. I loved K-On! though there are friends who found it boring because it's a slice of life. To each his own. My opinion is mine and I can be wrong at times.

Now, to sound like a broken record. I've recently been re-watching Angel Beats! and often wonder to myself "What would KyoAni or (insert studio here) have done differently from P.A. Works in this scene or episode? Would they have granted Maeda Jun the 24 episodes he originally wanted? How would the cast have differed?"

I don't think I could see Tachibana Kanade being played by anyone other than Hanazawa Kana, or TK by anyone other than Michael Rivas (believe me, I've watched the dubs and Adam Van Wagoner is NO TK) but I could've seen a few of the other cast members with slightly different voices.

But I'm veering way off the subject. I mostly love KyoAni, I sometimes hate KyoAni, but I'll keep coming back at least for one or two episodes per season to see what they bring to the table every season. Hopefully they'll bring in a new season of Haruhi or get around to Tomoyo After (yeah, like that will ever be animated) to offset some of the choices they have recently made.

There is a line people will have when it comes to anime or entertainment in general. I know for a fact that I'm not a fan of hentai. Many people I know don't like ecchi. But where is the line between ecchi and hentai? I guess when it comes down to it, the line is a very blurry one. Up until a couple years ago, I wouldn't pick up a show that explicitly says "nudity" or "mild nudity" in the keywords. I guess times change and slowly, so do tastes.

Now don't get me wrong, I still like melodrama. personally, I hold a huge place for the Key Trinity in my heart (Air, Kanon, Clannad) and so I've picked up Angel Beats! which has been full of awesome moments from day one. I also like stuff that is very kid friendly since I tend to watch a few episodes with my niece (Hanamaru Youchien is a prime example of this). But there are times that I just want to watch something that probably shouldn't be watched around other people.

This is how I came to find a few of the shows I've been picking up lately. I didn't explicitly go out looking for nudity in my anime, it just happened to be there. I guess when I was watching Tokko some time ago and saw Kureha's awesome figure that I realized this wasn't as bad as I'd thought it was. So I went ahead and looked into Ladies Versus Butlers. I'd heard that the fanservice in this was quite heavy, but I'd seen shows that had that before. I just didn't know how much I was getting myself into.

It turns out, LvB has at least one nude scene per episode. Something I wasn't privy to when I talked about it on the forum and why I quickly added the "Not for Kids" label. I sat in disbelief at how every week they would find new ways to get someone naked in that show. I guess after a few episodes, I'd grown immune, because I also picked up another show, Cobra: The Animation. This one also featured nudity to a lower level, but in a more tasteful way. I guess when you're doing adventure it's easier to go classy than when doing ecchi comedy.

Lastly, I have picked up Seikon no Qwaser. It is intriguing because the depiction of breasts in these shows hasn't really made me like them any more or any less. I guess when I saw the first episode of Qwaser, I felt the animation itself plus the story were worth watching. The story does revolve around breast milk as a power source, so there definitely is a lot of oppai every episode. This I have come to expect. What has been more and more amusing has been how the story develops and how the act itself has become more and more sexual.

I know that the manga has very graphic depictions of characters drinking soma (breastmilk) so I shouldn't be shocked at this. What made me wonder if I'm pushing my own line of taste is when the woman being suckled seems to enjoy and even orgasms from the act. This is what disturbed me a bit. Maybe I'm just reading a little too much into that, but it's my opinion, I could be wrong.

As I said before, the story itself is enjoyable and has made me laugh more than a couple of times. There have been a few episodes that just made me go 0.o WTF is going on? And though they don't make sense individually, I guess collectively they make for a very entertaining show... if you can get past the whole "suck on boobies like Popeye eats spinach" aspect. I must say that some of the weirder episodes featured Aleksander "Sasha" Hell believing he was a girl and wondering why his breasts weren't developed yet. This and the episode featuring one superhero Miyuri running around catching airplanes and such...

To say the least, it's a show that has gone all over the place, but managed to keep an interesting storyline. Interesting enough for me to ignore most of the boobsucking. Would I recommend it? Only if you have an open mind and aren't easily offended by religious comparisons. Guess my line has not been completely defined... or maybe it's slightly shifting. Let's just hope this time next year I'm not a huge fan of tentacles.

As you all may know, a few weeks ago there was a problem with the server over at http://forums.ars-comica.com and I had no way of telling people what was going on. Luckily, it was only a minor problem and everything went back to normal within a matter of days.

I know this left a few of the http://www.megatokyo.org with a doubtful feeling. This is why I've decided to start posting on this blog. I don't know how often I'll be updating or what I will be writing about yet. Maybe I'll start blogging anime here as they do in Random Curiosity.

The point is that now if anything happens at Ars-Comica and I have no way of communicating with you all, you can come see what's going on here.
