Anime Relations: Peach Girl

I absolutely loved this anime.  There are few romance/drama series I've seen that were so compelling to me from start to finish, few that made me rush from episode to episode, overcoming my usual habit of putting things off.

But I had a bit of a problem with the ending.  Not because of Momo's choice, but how she made that choice.

If you are on a special date with your significant other (to finally consummate your relationship), and you find out that, at that moment, your ex's life may be in danger, do you have to be in love with your ex to justify dropping everything to save that person?

I personally don't think so.  But Touji thought otherwise, telling Momo that the possible mortal peril of the ex (who was still important to her) was no reason to interrupt their date.  And in the end, Momo agreed.

It made me think, what if the situation was reversed?  If she had been with Okayasu at the time, would the possbility of Touji's death make her choose him?

Incidentally, that's the same issue I had with Kagome's jealousy in Inu Yasha >:(

I don't like it as much as I used to. Back then, when I first discovered it in 2002, it was new and popular, and it's still popular. It was my very first boy-on-boy anime, and I eagerly joined the fangirl-hype. I still haven't seen much boy-on-boy anime since then, but now I find that was just okay. It wasn't too funny, and it wasn't too exciting.  The ending wasn't that great. I realize now that I never really loved any of the characters.

I'd thought I'd like the manga better, and though I enjoyed it overall, it gave me more problems at the same time. I hated how it got way too silly for too long, especially the New York part with that Rage chick and her stupid giant panda robot. I used to like Shuuichi but now I think he's too whiny and indesicive. I used to love Yuki Eiri but now I think he's too much of an asshole. The manga killed my love for him, made him pathetic in my eyes. Because I was quite disturbed at how he considered the man who accepted $10 to have him gang-raped the only one he'll ever love, and that he never stopped loving him even after allowing himself to love Shuuichi. Even when I try to twist it around and romanticize that in my head, it still bothers me. I guess that kind of theme in any series, yaoi or not, just rubs me the wrong way.

I still generally like the series, though. I still consider myself a fan. And I'll always like the music--namely "Sleepless Beauty", "The Rage Beat", and "Glaring Dream." ^^

And I'll eventually unwrap the Lyrics of Love DVD I bought last August at FanExpo. ^^;

Edit:  Argh.  I dunno.  Maybe I was a bit too harsh.  I remember more clearly now how funny the manga and the anime were.  But that New York part in the manga was overly silly and drawn out.  And I hate Yuki now.  But Gravitation is still special to me, I think.  And it's not like I have much else to compare it to in that genre of romance-drama, yaoi or otherwise.
