Anime Relations: Shimai Ningyou

(crappy draft for now.)

Should have been written eons ago since I finished the VN in 2013, but basically it will be about the game ending, it's company, and the wasted effort afterall.

***I would say "SPOILER WARNING" but this game is so old you've probably never hear of it nor can you get your hands on it considering the difficulty I had to myself. Also, it only runs on Windows XP so don't bother now that MIcrospft no longer supports XP as you won't beable to play this VN. ***

OK So there are 3 main routes in this game each with their respective good and bad endings. The sister, our female knight friend, and the demon girl.

Our protag is a (former) christian who is the son of a knight and goes to a prestigious school in town. His sister is a nun with a sickly body and could die soon.

We meet and befriend our female knight friend one day at school.

Protag has a master who is an alchemist that lives in the woods and provides medicine to his sister. One day the master provides a lesson on medical treatment.

Choice split here. Pick the right option he gets a bunch of ingredients and recipe but get it wrong the master reprimands the protag and gives the medicine.
The sister dies anyway because if he answered right and got the ingredients he somehow f**ks up the recipe later on and if he got the medicine the sister gets NTR raped to death in town. WTF I don't even.

At that point the protag came to hate God and starts practicing dark magic/ alchemy to bring his sister back from the dead. His master somehow has a homunculus in his basement so he asked his master for it to be used as a body for the revival magic. (The master prolly didn't object because the homunculus was created in memory of his late daughter)

When protag summons the demon girl, the demon says a virgin sacrifice was needed for the revival ritual so the female knight girl he met at school. Unfortunately our protag was still a spineless moral-fag to kill her despite essentially converting to Satanism, so the demon told the protag to fornicate the knight girl instead for the ritual.

The ritual was somewhat a success as the sister's soul was transfered into the homunculus, but the demon girl got stuck in there as well and often becomes the dominant consciousness within the homunculus to communicate with the protag. The demon girl said this homunculus was to weak and the protag needs to constantly provide energy through sex.

Much H-scenes from here on out so im gonna directly rant about the endings here.

THE SISTER DIES IN ALL 6 (3girls * 2Good/Bad) ENDINGS!!! To think that you would be able to save her some how in her good ending, BUT NO! It just ends on a quote unquote "lighter note" as the sister says her final goodbye before homonculus turns to dust.

But wait...there is a hidden True Ending for completing the sister and demon routes. This gave me hope that she will live after all.

In this path the first difference is that the sister confesses her love to her brother and they do make out once before she dies. Not by f**king up the medicine recipe nor NTR rape here for goodness sake but she just drops dead after the H-scene.

Another difference is that now the ritual has a Part II. The demon sets a later specific date to perform a make-up ritual to fix the mistake of the initial revival spell. The conditions here is to halve the protag's live span to be shared with the homunculussister.

So yeah all seems to be well here and I would've gotten my desires ending where the sister lives had it not been for that Knight bitch. She keeps coming to pester the siblings and on the night of the make up ritual she shows up again and kills the homunculus with the soul of the sister/demon girl in it.

Sister Y U NO Move!! The Demon girl consciousness moved out of the way of the sword and knight bitch or something, but the sister consciousness forced the homunculus body to hold still as she believes something created out of dark magic like herself should not exist in the world and does not want to take away half of his life for her existence.

Like her brother she's also still a moral-fag despite no longer being a nun and living in an artificial body, making it effectively not blood-related anymore and she's only his real sister mentally. And as for the protag, the reviving ritual could've been a success from the start if you just had the spine to kill of your goddamn sacrifice which would've also effectively stopped her from becoming an obstruction to your goal.

And what happens after this...the protag somehow forgives that knight bitch and marries her in the epilogue, and they have two daughters who are heavily implied to be the reincarnation of the sister and the demon girl making it one of those "bitter sweet" endings.

What a shitty ending that was.

F**K YOU KUZURYUU....(name means nine headed dragon but kuzu also mean "trash" which is what this VN is ) I wasted my precious time trying to dig up this hidden gem from an obscure Chinese site (yeah not Japanese site), but now it is clear to me that some VNs such as this one deserves to be buried in the deepest depths of hell and forgotten, never to be uncovered ever again.

It at least brings me solace that this company now dead or no longer making anymore new VNs.

Sheesh, this game was such a friggin hassle just to get my hands on. Only 880 something MBs, which may not seem that much compared to the other games I have, but this one took me 3 days just to download the damn thing. (3 days, not including the number of days it took for me just to find a download source)

Day 1

Unable to be found merely by google searching in Japanese and typing your regular download site, the results appearing only in Chinese which I don't know nor intend to, I had no choice but to make due with that and tough it out with google translate.

A random Chinese forum by the name of Sakuradm.

To think I'd be able to see the link just by signing up.....oh no I cant just head back to the topic where it's located; it redirects me to this page saying that I had to wait a whole friggin day before they'd let me browse the forum.

Next day....still can't go to that page.

It was exactly 24 hours since I signed up. I know, let's check the text again and see what I missed...

According to the instructions of the first method, seemed like I needed to create an account on U115 first. (I'm gonna have so many unused accounts all over random sites after this.) Login was successful...on the site itself, but when I tried to login in the download manager it kept failing. WTF!?! I decided to skip the login process to the and just copy/pasting the url on to the box and click download...

...it didn't download, to my surprise (Sarcasm).

Like I said, why won't Udown log me in when the site itself does.

Having failed the first method, I moved on to the second and third, which seemed to have even less chance of working than the first. 2nd one was a mess and completely lost me, while the application in the 3rd didn't even start up (Blogger said antivirus might block)

Frustrated, I went back to the download url in u115 with my account logged in and to the bottom right of the screen, 2 more buttons appeared which weren't there before.....

By then all that download manager thing to me seemed no longer unnecessary

...or so I thought.

The download works but at a very slow rate, a mere 1-9 kbps with 1 day and 4-12 hours left. No way am I going to be able to download the damn thing without leaving it over night. Maybe I could just resume the download the next day.

so...I left it for a few hours while I went to have a jog.

But when I came back I suddenly realized that firefox will resume the download as long as the computer and internet router stays on...:/

I went back to pause the download and restart the laptop to test, hoping my fears would not come true as expected.

...it did

URRGH!!! I was really frustrated at that point, believing that I won't be able to get my hands on it unless leave my computer and internet router on, which was not possible since I still haven't moved out of my annoying parents' house yet. Even if I were allowed to, Firefox has a tendency to freeze up (usually upon 50-99% completion of) my downloads, so that means that first option of using the Udown download manager is inevitable.

The question was...why wouldn't it log me in when I was using a real working account?

I found another tutorial blog post on another site, the version of Udown seemed to be different to the one I had. Sadly, they didn't gave a direct link to download the latest version.

*Google search...found it*

I installed this newest version and rebooted the laptop. An error message appeared saying it was "missing a file" and had to close down....

Huh? I've just installed it a minute ago and haven't even used the damn thing.

Yes...the log in was finally successful. I can now proceed with the download, following the tutorials of this new site.

Things seemed to be moving smoothly for now, still at a slow rate but at least now I can pause the download and resume after I restart.

14% in about 4-5 hours

[DAY 2 WASTED]

Day 3

Went to resume download first thing in the morning, and to my surprise there was a sudden increase in the rate of download.

from the very slow (approx) 10 - 23 kbps to the usuall speed of 60-190 kbps.

I'm sure how or why it suddenly shot up since I didn't sign up for the Vip, but who cares.

Download was completed in a matter of hours.

(but I had class in the afternoon so I had to leave the house and wait till I came home)

Evening

I was so excited. I could hardly wait to jump in and play dat certain game I had been looking all over for ages, without the results leading me to the OVA version, which was right in front of me.

I went ahead and right clicked then selected 'extract'

Ahahaha... I've wasted a whole 3 days of my life, painstakingly searching and browsing the web looking for the source, downloading and testing out random applications in chinese (which I have no idea if they contain some virus or whether they'd even work) according to the tutorials available, just so that I could obtain this VN, and now you say that all my efforts is now wasted... because I dont have a FRIGGIN PASSWORD!?!?!?

So finally the image files have been extracted and now it was time to proceed with the installation.

The installation worked properly and suceeded without a hitch.

And now...the moment of truth. Let's see if this VN works.

What the FUCK!!!! Why the hell won't it start up the game? If it failed there should've been an error screen by now. I've came THIS far as to sucessfully install the damn thing so from that point forward everything should be running smoothly.

Where did I go wrong?

I went back to sakuradm and copy/pasted the comments to see if anyone else had problems during the installation process.

I couldn't make out that second paragraph from google's sucky translation but I assumed that I had somehow messed up my installation. Well I didn't really see what the problem was since I merely installed it in a drive:D instead of drive:C, but OK.

I uninstalled/reinstalled it anyways...and guess what, it didn't work. No way that merely changing the install location is gonna ruin it. So what does that bottom paragraph had to say?

Wait, you mean my regional settings have to be set to Chinese to play this? Come to think of it, the name of the creator was in 3 Kanji characters instead of Kana. Maybe it was Chinese after all. I went to the control pannnel to change my region....

NO!!!!! JUST NO!!! THERE'S JUST NO WAY THAT VN'S DEVELOPED IN JAPANESE AND INTENDED FOR USE IN JAPAN ONLY IN THE FIRST PLACE, WOULD'VE HAD TO REQUIRE THE REGIONAL SETTINGS SET TO BE SET TO CHINA!!

What am I crazy? (not yet, but if this messing around keeps up I'll probably will be committed to my local asylum very soon.)

What do you mean NTL? What do you mean APP? All I could notice was the word image andI thought it had something to do with one with the .img file that come with it. Perhaps I was to mount that instead, but if that had been the case it would've appeared as a file that I could click while I was mounting it.

So out of my already burned out unable-to-think-straight state of mind, I did the absurd, surely not gonna work method by copying every extracted file to the installed file in drive:C. Didn't work

In despair I was. All hopes of being able to play that VN I had been longing for...out the friggin window...

... atleast that would've been the case, had I not realized that one final and important reason that I had overlooked.

BitDefender....... a VNs' worst enemy.

Never did I come to me that an antivirus, one with such strength but had previously been disabled allowing me access to even Tasogare no Sinsemia, would strike once again while lying disabled.

In an act of deperation, in exchange for being able to play Shimai Ningyou, I uninstalled the one ant only antivirus I had in my posession and let my Laptop become vulnerable to trojan or malware attacks.

And after a restart, I clicked the application to the VN...

*screen appears showing copyright warnings, then shifts to the start up screen*

It works....

IT FINALLY WORKS!

All of my hard work to get this thing had paid off.

F**K YOU BITDEFENDER! IT'S ALL YOUR GODDAMN FAULT FOR TROLLING ME AT THE LAST MINUTE! WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT THAT MERELY DISABLING YOU WOULD NOT KEEP YOU AT BAY ENOUGH TO LET ME ACTIVATE THE VN I WANT!!

WELL GOOD RIDDANCE BIT DEFENDER!!! NEXT TIME I'M SWITCHING TO AN ANTIVIRUS WHICH IS LESS STRONG BUT DOESN'T BLOCK EVERY SINGLE CRACK AND INSTALLATION APPLICATION FOR THE PROGRAMS I USE!!

But right now I just have to be extremely careful when surfing the internet from now on...a small price to my for the sake of my eroge.
