Formatted for geefax, simply here so I don't forget.
Baccano! (one of the best anime dubs ever meets one of the coolest, most stylish thrillers around, with a fantastic grasp for comedy and supernatural intrigue. The large cast and multiple plotlines make it confusing at first, but power through the first couple of episodes and you'll find a non-stop train ride)

Steins;Gate (compelling and crazy-fun comedy-thriller about a bunch of nerds who accidentally start a global conspiracy; if you've got a decent bit of otaku knowledge you'll enjoy it even more. Ridiculously satisfying developments, superb voice acting and excellent use of music - a combination between perfect directing and being as accessible as possible. Anime of 2011.)

Eden of the East (another comedy-thriller with a social bent asking an interesting question - how would YOU change your country with 100 million dollars? - with amazing artistic values, a fantastic main character and a compelling mystery behind it all. And if you like Western cinema, you're in for a few treats)

Tetsuwan Birdy Decode (gloriously animated sci-fi action series, with one of the best sequels ever made which turns it into an emotional, ethically challenging rollercoaster that will make you cheer, baaaaw, and cheerbaaaaw. This is one of its' less impressive fight scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLXSwmwhn_g)

The Tatami Galaxy (what some high-mided fellas would call 'the best anime ever', and without a doubt a sparklingly rose-coloured show; a black comedy depicting the rise and fall (and rise and fall and rise and fall and etc.) of a college student attempting to change his life for the better. Amazing artistic merits and ball-bustingly hilarious.)

Kuragehime (a fabulous romantic comedy about a colony of female NEETs, Japan's twisted political system, terrifyingly hipster-like trap love interests, jellyfish and being goddamn hilarious. Well-meaning, nutty fun)

Mononoke (satisfyingly clever, twisted, and ruthlessly plotted supernatural murder-mystery with beautiful art design, brilliantly injected bits of black humour and a kinda mediocre final arc. Still though, smelly logs will never be the same)

Bakemonogatari (A wonderfully frank, surreal and visually poetic romantic comedy drama with razor-sharp wit, a fantastic eye for truly resonant characters and some of the best duologue banter inside or outside of anime, helped by SHAFT's stunning production)

Dennou Coil (this can be a pretty hard sell - it's one of the most genuinely deep and intelligent anime I've seen but it's aimed at families, and the first two episodes really play up the SO QUIRKY factor; but in fact it's the spiritual successor to stuff like Lain and Boogiepop)

UN-GO (A dystopian thriller with a whole lot of wit and dry comedy, interesting commentary on the media, control and national identity, and based off classic postwar Japanese novels to boot! It presents itself as a mystery, but it's a rare show that treats its' viewers as having at least two brain cells, asking them to look between the lines and revel in genuinely intriguing moral dilemmas and awesome twists and turns)

To Aru Majutsu no Index (the only real shonen-fighter on this list, a highly entertaining show that's balls-crazy with a full cast of combat nuns, Christian ninjas, surfer dudes, Catholic mercenaries, 14-year-old kids who look like they're in their 30s and the man - the legend - that is Accelerator (kinda SPOILERS but bloody awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pREOMmhHyU8). Crazy, and debtably not actually that good until the second season, but if you get into it, it grabs on to you and never lets go)
