Anime Relations: Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen, Shinsekai yori, Monogatari Series: Second Season

I think the complication of identifying a masterpiece lies within how we perceive a particular anime. For example, a person can see one anime as satisfactory, yet another may be able to pinpoint its flaws and instead perceive the anime to be mediocre.

A masterpiece supposedly equals a ten out of ten. When I think of a ten/ten, I think of Shin Sekai Yori. In my mind, I believe that Shin Sekai Yori would equate to a ten/ten for what it manages to achieve. It's a completely original world that most anime do not have. Even for the ones that have creative worlds, some anime are not able to interpret/elaborate upon their worlds as superbly as Shin Sekai Yori did. Another aspect that makes anime like this truly remarkable is how it manages to make to make the viewer feel emotions that he/she has felt before (more or less). But I think what leads people away from thinking an anime is a ten/ten, is not being able to understand the world enough to enjoy it to its fullest potential.

Monogatari series... there is so much more than to what is just shown in front of people's screens. Character development, character perspective, character interactions... The Monogatari series nails every "character" aspect on the head. People should look more onto the hows and whys instead of just the whats if they expect to fully comprehend a piece of art. Something amazing that most people don't even know when watching Second Season is that each arc is viewed from the perspective of different characters. Therefore the view and perspective on the world, on other characters, on emotions and on themselves is altered in accordance to that character.
It's subtle thing to do, but I do feel a different aura as I jump along the arcs and into different character focuses.
For anime to do complex things as such, is challenging, and when it successfully accomplishes these feats, you know that you have one prodigious work of art.

Now obviously my view may/may not be entirely credible due to the amount of anime that I have watched. I've heard of other anime/manga that also executes these concepts extremely well (probably even better) such as Monster and Berserk of which I have not yet read/seen.
With everything being said and done however, a masterpiece varies between individuals by how well they can interpret their stories and characters in ways that executes potent, deep and visceral feelings to a person's soul while also making you feel understood at the same time. That is what makes an anime a masterpiece.
