Anime Relations: Koukaku Kidoutai
So I was checking my profile comments when I glanced over to the left at my favorite characters and noticed that none of them happened to be female and I thought to myself "Well thats not fair "=/. Now the reason for this is much of the time my affinity for a characters comes from my ability to sympathize and relate with them. Or I guess a more frank way of way it is, I like to project myself on to characters. Needless to say, this is easier to do with male characters than female characters for a guy. Also fair warning, I'm a sucker for the "badass" stereotype, so you will see many badass females on this list which IMO isn't really a bad thing :P. So enough rambling, heres my top 10 favorite female anime characters!

1. "The Major" Motoko Kusanagi [Ghost in the Shell, GitS: SAC, GitS: Arise]

The epitome of badass female characters. Really there's just no denying how awesome she is. The ultimate unification of intelligence, sexiness and power. I remember watching the movie so many years ago and that scene were she gets her arms shredded trying to rip open the hatch of the attack robot and I thought to myself "Are all girls this freakin' awesome?" (didn't have much experience with women at the time). Anyway in all of her reincarnations shes been awesome, everything from the original manga to Arise, but the Major that sticks out most in my mind and the one that I'm most familiar is the one in Stand alone complex. It's easily where she has the most development and gets to do the most badass things throughout the series.

2. Senjougahara Hitagi [Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari,Monogatari Series: Second Season]

I honestly have a hard time explaining to people why I like her so much. Shes a weird mix of tsundere and ojou-san stereotypes. Shes often sadistic and even cruel at times. Aside from the newest season she hasn't shown much compassion to other people aside from Araragi. There's just something about her that's undeniable though. My favorite moment with her was pretty much the entirety of episode 12 of Bakemonogatari. This goes back to the whole projection thing, where I kinda imagined myself as Araragi. Yeah... dat ear nibbling.

3. Holo [Spice and Wolf, Spice and Wolf II]

Probably the best chemistry I've seen between two anime characters. Holo and Lawrence are easily my favorite anime couple. Needless to say my projection habit plays a part in this. In a lot of ways shes similar to Senjougahara, except I'd say a little nicer and more cute rather than sexy. My favorite moment of hers is when she first appears to Lawrence. While I'm talking about Spice and Wolf, I might as well rant a little about how there's no season 3 yet. So what the fuck is up Brains+Base? Are you seriously trying to tell me Spice and Wolf didn't sell well enough to get another season? Natsume Yujinchou has 4 fucking seasons, the show is great and all, but are really trying to tell me that this can get 4 seasons and Spice and Wolf only deserves 2? While you've forgotten about this series you've been making crap like Amnesia and Brothers Conflict?! Wtf man. I know theres enough goddamn material from the LN, so where the fuck is my SEASON 3??!!

4. Oscar François de Jarjeyes [Rose of Versailles]

Rose of Versailles is easily my favorite shoujo anime and a big part of this is how easy it was to relate to Oscar. Obviously a lot of that has to do with Oscar being raised as a man and her need to express this to everyone she meets and not pretend to be something she isn't. Well there are some moments near the end of the show, but it's pretty much done for development and catharsis. My favorite moment is when she finally hooks up with Andre, cheesy I know; but it really was one of the best moments of the show.

5. Chiyoko Fujiwara [Milennium Actress]

Satoshi Kon always had great female leads and Chiyoko was no exception. Millennium Actress one of my favorite anime movies of all time. It's one of the only movies where we get to witness a persons life in it's entirety. All of their feelings, both sadness happiness, regrets and successes. Thus I felt like she was the best representation of Mr. Kon's work. R.I.P Satoshi Kon, you made some great anime :( My favorite and also the saddest part of the movie is the last scene.

6. Michiko Malandro [Michiko to Hatchin]

Easily the hottest anime mom I've come across and also a total badass. There's really not much to hate about this character. Yeah she wasn't always there for her daughter and doesn't really have the best luck with guys, but atleast she took the initiative to fix things. Also nice to have a non-japanese character as the main for once. Really the whole show is not very typical of anime at all. Her constantly changing outfits are always refreshing as well.My favorite moment with her is definitely her entrance in the first episode. Why don't anime characters ride motorcycles anymore? :(

7. Madoka Ayukawa [Kimagure Orange Road, Kimagure Orange Road OVA, Kimagure Orange Road: Summer's Beginning]

Probably not the first Madoka that most modern anime fans would think of, but she'll always have a special place in my heart. I mean c'mon she plays saxophone, shes pretty and she kicks ass? Really not much else to ask for. Shes also really kind and understanding, seriously I don't know how she deals with that indecisive MC the whole series. My favorite moment with her was in the sequel movie when, yeah you guessed it, finally hooks up with Kyouske.

8. Priscilla "Priss" Asagiri [Bubblegum Crisis, Bubblegum Crash, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040]

Based off the character from "Blade Runner" she more or less represents everything that was awesome about the 80's and cyberpunk and also paved the way for series like GitS to be born. She fights, she sings, she looks great and shes the leader of the group. Plus she rides a badass motorcycle, seriously why do no anime characters ride motorcycles anymore? Did it go out of style or something? My favorite moment with her is in the beginning of the series with her performance of "Konya wa Hurricane".

9. Revy [Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage, Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail]

Really shouldn't need much explanation. Another badass female characters that I've come to admire over the years. I had a hard time choosing just one character from this franchise as Black Lagoon has so many badass females and I decided to only have 1 char per series/director. I considered Balalaika and Roberta for a while, but in the end I decided to go with Revy because shes the one I'm most familiar with and shes definitely got the edge in the looks department. My favorite moment of hers is her is near the end of second barrage where shes clearing out a building full of guys and this one guy is trying to give up and she responds in engrish XD (jap dub).

10. Fujiko Mine [Lupin III, Lupin III: Castle of Cagilostro, Lupin III: A woman named Fujiko]

Fujiko is a strange character as shes had many interpretations over the years and they all tend to be fairly different from one another. Probably kind of obvious at this point, but my favorite interpretation is easily the one from Lupin III: A woman named Fujiko; that was also directed by the same female director that gave us Michiko to Hatchin. In this version shes rather cold and gladly will use her body to get what she wants. In fact shes kind of a bitch, but I guess thats sort of her appeal. Shes dangerous, hot and I love how they kept hinting at this dark past she had, only to throw it all back in your face XD. It's just the way she is man. Like Michiko she changes her outfits very often. My favorite scene with her is definitely her entrance in the first episode of Lupin III: A woman named Fujiko.

Honorable Mentions: Nino [Arakawa under the bridge, Stocking [Panty and Stocking], Misaka Mikoto [Index and Railgun series], Balsa Yonsa [Seirei no Moribito], Naomi Armitage [Armitage III], Gally "Alita, Yoko" [Battle Angel Alita series], Rune Balot [Mardock Scramble movies], Kyoko Otonashi [Maison Ikkoku], San [Princess Mononoke], Teresa [Claymore], Rin Asogi [Mnemosyne], Lain [Serial Experiments Lain], Kino [Kino's Journey], Re-I Mayer [Ergo Proxy], Miyu Yamamano [Vampire Princess Miyu], Olivier Mira Armstrong [FMA: brotherhood], Yoruichi Shihouin [Bleach], Kurisu Makise [Steins;Gate], Ami Kawashima [Toradora], Kei [Dirty Pair], Sonoshee McLaren [Redline], Erin [Kemono no Souja Erin]
