So, Knights of Sidonia is....ok. Don't get me wrong here - it has some good points (chiefly the action sequences) however it is also rather off putting and this has lowered my opinion of the series by degrees. Right off we have a sequence where the catheter system on the space suits is explained and demonstrated - definitely a 'wtf' moment and completely over the top and unnecessary. Naturally this isn't the only time the catheter is mentioned. The Alien creatures have tentacles of course too. Given that there is some kind of background conspiracy going on I think we're gearing up for some manner of absurd - and probably gross - revelation about the nature do these aliens. Further, the characters look remarkably alike and lack character depth - and thus die often. I mean, that's to create emotional depth and impart the seriousness of the 'war' but it's a bit predictable and flat. I feel like there is a conspiracy at work behind the scenes that we are going to see coming a mile away. The art isn't too terrible - it's a little worse than Blue Steel but a similar technique. Really, the best part of the show is the music - especially the OP.
Also watched the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal - hard to believe its ONA - the art is quality. It does follow the story closely but it's very enjoyable still - when Sailor Moon pledges to punish the monsters - well, I nearly cried. I do feel bad for the kids who watch it unclouded by the nostalgia from the original.
