Anime Relations: Shoujo Kakumei Utena, Durarara!!
I think it's mid September now and I guess that means I got to get back into the reviews, the blogs, and yada yada... But seriously, there is A LOT more than what I'll be reviewing on this blog that I had bought, but to stay true to the formula that I guess I have established with this blog, I'm only going to talk about the manga volumes and dvds I got.

ANIME: Only two titles from mechacon, though one of them was only available via online stores.

First up is the first english dub release from Aniplex, Durarara DVD collection Parts 1, 2 and 3, released by Aniplex.

Oh yeah, parts 1 and 2 were definitely worth buying with part 3 being there to just complete the collection (Although I will admit that I've warmed up to the final episodes over time). They are definitely made to last, or at least how long dvds last I mean, and the packaging is competent enough to satisfy any fan, especially the slip cover, Aniplex had better have given the person who came up with it a cookie or something.
Seriously though, I have no problems with sets physically, internally is another story. Each set is about $40~$50 bucks apiece on just about any site you can find it on (BTW, you can only buy this online, in case you didn't notice my saying it the first time) and this is 26 episode series (24 episodes with 2 bonus episodes) meaning it's pretty spread out thin. The first set has 9 episodes, and the second and third have 8 if I did my math right, which in either case means you are going to shell a lot of money this series if you want it all. Though you get a crap ton of post cards so that's pretty neat I suppose...
Do I Recommend It? This is a pretty good show from start to mid way point, but the price is a pretty reasonable deal breaker, I'd recommend to fans of the show only.

Up next is the finale of a legendary series, and something I need to get my lazy ass to finish up, Revolutionary Girl Utena: Apocalypse Saga Box Set 3 Limited Edition, released by Nozomi and Rightstuf!

This fucking thing nearly dwarfed every thing on my shelves and you definitely get your money's worth right here with this set. You get the last saga in the series, the movie, and an artbook along with another whole dvd full of extras. Oh yes this set also includes that crusty old dub which I don't recommend watching. But honestly this probably one of my center pieces to my entire collection.
Do I Recommend It? It every Utena out there, if you do not have this on your selves you should be ashamed of yourself, even the $50+ prcie tag is reasonable.

MANGA: Straight from is stuff that isn't exactly exclusive to any site or anything like that, it's just me trying to catch up on long running series, three series in fact.

Up first is a manga that spend more time in hibernation than in active print, Hunter X Hunter volume 3, released by Viz Media.

And damn am I glad that I got into this series very late, hopefully never learning of the pain of waiting years for a single new chapter.
Also this is just another standard manga volume, but since it's early viz the quality is a bit better that their later releases.

Next up is yet another that remain on the waiting list of many many fans, Berserk volume 4, released by Dark Horse.

And yet another series that I was fortunate enough to get into late in the game, though catching up will be quite the adventure itself...
This one seems a little lighter than the others previous volumes, especially on extras cause there are none, but it is still well put together volume by dark horse.

And finally it's time to say konichiwa to everyone's favorite suicidal teacher, Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei volume 9, released by Kodansha Comics.

This marks the first of the kodansha line of the series, and you probably wondering if they fixed that infamous translation error? Don't despair, it is fixed and all is right with the world... Of manga releases I mean.
Admittedly, this one does seem a bit more flimsy than the del rey releases, but it's really hard to tell, though the font for a lot of the print is different, something only long time readers will be able to tell. With all of the usual extras you've come to expect from this english language release.

OVERALL: Outside of the other stuff from mechacon I bought, the anime and manga selections was greater than most brick and mortar stores would offer, and getting some of the exclusives that were only available online is something great.

A- for this special.

And hold on, there's more shopping coming your way, number 23 is right around the corner.
