artist-retired's Blog

What's that? Why did I take off forever ago? Money, bills, and the need to stop my exessive shopping, but all of that has no meaning because the blog is back and running and expect it to continue for next week too.

ANIME:Two titles for the returning of the blog, Funimation and Sentai Filmworks provides for this week.

First up the next installment of the MMO este series, not in video game form though, .Hack//Quantum: Complete OVA Series (Blu-ray/DVD Combo), released by funimation.

Now for this part I normally discuss and critize the product, but I wanna get this out of the way: How much do you think this cost? Imagine yourself walking down the aile of the anime section in your video store, you come across this dvd/blu ray and think "Oh shit, funimation has got to have priced that bad boy up," then you pick it up. $39.99? $29.99? Nope, try just $20 bucks. IT may just be 3 episodes, but it's from funimation (Note stuff like this usually get priced around 30 like the Tsubasa ovas) and usually it's not as cheap as it should be.
Now on to the product, from first glance you'd think it's in a regular dvd set, but it's actually a blu ray case with a slip cover the size of a dvd case. It's weird, I'd admitt it, but it's kinda nice, both dvd and bluray are housed inside with both disk on the inside.
Do I Reccomend? Personally I feel that it is best .hack anime to date, and with the surprising low price of both dvd and blu ray (With a bunch of extras included), picking it up wouldn't a bad idea in the slightest.

Up next the visual novel inspired series about a guy who love 2d but has to get it on with the 3d, The World God Only Knows Complete Collection, released by sentai filmworks.

First off, everything I said about the Angel Beats dvd set applies to this one, just a regular (recycled) dvd case and with two dvds instead of three. I apparently can't joke around with sentai not having money cause they're licensing everything lately (The gintama and fate/stay night movies? What's next, grabbing everything bandai discontinued?) but this continues to bug the shit out of me, though it's no where near as poor as bandai's star driver sets (Ughhh).
The release includes an okay english dub, and a few extras, and the dvds look nice too, $39.99 is what you'll be shelling out for the dvd set, and about five dollars more for the blu ray version.
Do I Reccomend It? If you like the anime like I do, then sure, but only then is when I'd reccommend it.

MANGA:For manga this return, my good buds from Kodansha and Yen Press provides me with some reading material, three volumes worth to be exact.

And first to be on my to read list, Negima volume 32, released by Kodansha.

As much as you guys love my regurgetation of the same joke, there is nothing I can really say but the same thing was said in the last blog when I bought a volume of Negima, only this time there are subtle changes, only long time readers would notice and the chunk of extras in this volume, and the pricing is the same too, $10.99.

Up next the sci fi series that personally replaces ghost in the shell for me, Mardock Scramble volume 4, released by Kodansha.

However, that doesn't mean I think Mardock is better than GitS, it just offer my sci fi fix in manga. Anywho, said to say but, I can't think of anything to say than what was said in earlier blogs, it's a little thicker than volume 3 but other than that, same old, same old.

And last but definitely not least, Bunny Drop volume 4, released by Yen Press.

Once again, same old same old, however, this is the turning point in the series, in volume 5, Rin will not be her young adorable self no longer and the series progresses further into... the ending. Like with the anime, you shall be forgiven for not continuing past this point.

OVERALL: Sentai is still up to their cheap ways while funi is cheapening up their releases, and manga publishers mostly stay the same.

This is the definition of a B+ week.

Next week, how about a special something that comes out next week, a little something for your Vita(Life).
