UPDATE: Way better than Winamp
A new player that I use. Better than teenspirit/jaangle and (maybe) way better than Winamp :D
The player is called aTunes.
Website: http://www.atunes.org/
Screenshot: http://himynameisthirdy.blogspot.com/2009/05/way-better-than-winamp-maybe-but-its.html (my blog)
Quick Overview:
1. Open Source (GNU General Public License).
2. Cross-Platform (Written in Java, my lang of choice :D).
3. Last.fm support (MAL for music fans).
4. Built-in lyrics viewer and album-cover downloader.
Written in Java, it also uses Substance, an open-source super cool Look and Feel Java which I used before :D

Uses mplayer? For video, you mean? Anyways, I'll give it a try, seems worth it. Thanks.

Not as you think. Well, it depends on your machine. Java based applications nowadays run pretty much like native based apps on a modern PC.aTunes has all the stuff I need in a player (lyrics, tagging, album art views, artist/album info and last.fm integration), no more no less, works out-of-the-box. I guess it all comes to personal preference, I'm an open source fan, I don't really like commercial packed program like Winamp. And I do Java programming (but not a pro), right now I'm editing some of the source code of aTunes. But I liked Winamp before it got that memory hogger UI and before I got to understand Open-source. Not sure about iPod support, but it works with my Philips GoGear. |

Java? How is it performance-wise?Also, I'm interested whether it has iPod support or not; I don't really listen to music on my computer. At any rate, it doesn't seem to offer anything Winamp doesn't (apart from cross-platform support) |
