noteDhero's Blog

I decided that I would use this week's blog to briefly go over my scoring. It's a little hard for me to explain, so I'll use this time to also get my head straight on some stuff and maybe change some ratings. I have the score listed, then the one word descriptor, and then the equivalent in parental acknowledgment in parenthesis.

1- Unwatchable (You Just Didn't Even Try)
I've only completed one show since using the interenets that I gave a "1" to. Golden Boy. For me, a 1 is unpalatable echiness. The show might as well be an excuse to show tits, ass, and cameltoe. I don't watch hentai for a reason, therefore, I don't want my "regular" shows to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. The only other show I gave a 1 was Super Milk Chan, and if you saw it on Adult Swim, you know why. This show didn't have nudity (none that I care to remember anyways), but I never knew what was going on when I watched that show. It was like Teletubbies.

2- Wretched (You Tried a Little)
This normally means that the amount of pre-pubescent pandering was at the limit of my dropping the score, but the show had something mildly engaging. Maybe it is an ova of a show that I watched, but it was merely a glorified flashback episode (Bleach: Memories in the Rain) or maybe there was no pandering at all and was just an incoherent, pointless mess (YKK, I'm talking to you).

3- Terrible (You Had Something Going There, Too Bad You're A Fuck-Up)
These shows had an element that I really found interesting, yet the show itself failed at any attempts to really push that element into something good. Most movies of ongoing shows end up here, but if the show in question is an original, that means it got me in the first episode or so and went steeply downhill from there (Chaos;Head).

4- Bad (You Disappoint Me)
Almost all of theses shows took me by surprised. I probably underestimated them in the beginning, yet they managed to engage me a in the beginning to middle and then disappoint (Kaiji). Perhaps even, the show was as derivative as I expected it to be, but wasn't offensively condescending to be terrible (Kanon).

5- Mediocre (You Did Some Good There)
So I liked a lot of what I think you were trying to do, so I'm probably giving you the benefit of the doubt (Bus Gamer). Maybe the show did everything relatively well, but at the end of the day it was a predictable series of cliches (World Destruction). A lot of my nostalgia fest also goes here because, in hindsight, I know it wasn't the best, but I don't want to re-watch and crush my memories (Ronin Warriors).

I think I'll stop here in order to insure that I have something to write about next week. And because I'm tiring of the sound of my pompous voice.

For some inexplicable reason, I really like reading other people's scoring methods and comparing them to my own. I, too, have only given a single show a "1" (Elfen Lied in my case, for similar reasons to the ones you mention.) Usually, if a show is unwatchable then by definition I won't watch it (and therefore won't rate it.)
