This is a series of blog posts I'll be doing each week showcasing and briefly reviewing the various anime and manga I have bought for the week, which I try to buy at least 2 anime titles and 2 manga volumes each week, and I'll try to post a new blog post each Thursday or Friday.

ANIME:Two titles this week

For my first week, I decided to pick up Mardock Scramble: The First Compression, a 60 minute movie released by Sentai Flimworks in DVD only (Blu-ray version will be available early 2012, but if you're curious about this movie, I recommend picking up the dvd version sooner rather than later).
This release includes an english dub, some trailers I think, and well nothing much else, the fact that an english dub is considered an extra is pretty depressing really.

On online stores, it can be purchased for $20 to $25 dollars, I say F that! I found my copy of the movie at my local video store (Hastings) for only $10.99, the brick and mortar stores are actually cheaper than most online stores (except Best Buy, they charge full retail prices for anime).
The product itself is a regular dvd case, so it's a pretty cheap release (Of course Sentai has no money, so please buy more sentai stuff), and it's a recycled dvd case, so it's really cheaply made.
Do I recommend it? Well, I'm enjoying the manga so far, and it got a good review at Anime News Network, so I'm expecting a good hour of sci fi goodness.
After Watching It: I really enjoyed it, it's original, weird, but entertaining none the less, recommended for anyone looking for something different or good dystopian sci fi anime.

For the second anime I purchased, I decided to go for the great anime classic fictional folk tale series; Mushishi by Funimation.

This is the second cheapest version of this release, before the S.A.V.E. version comes out in a month or so, but I've been wanting to watch this anime for a good while, and I've been enjoying the manga version a lot (I'd recommend reading it).
This release includes an interview with the director, actor/director commentary, a production studio tour, a Mushishi manga preview by Del Rey (Which by the way, the Mushishi manga volumes are near extinct, and very hard to find unless you're willing to pay $50 bucks online), textless opening song video, original tv commerials, and funimation trailers.
The product itself is similar to the SAVE dvd sets, with the dvds stacked inside awkwardly, the episodes are spread out on 4 dvds, and it doesn't take up much space, it's a decent package overall, and the copy I bought was only $24.99, a steal for such a series as this one.

MANGA:Two volumes this week.

For manga, I decided to pick up and continue on a long running series, volume 27 of the Maho Sensei Negima series by Del Rey.

This volume covers up chapters 241 to 249, and any Negima fan knows what this volumes has in store, the Negi vs Rakan fight.
The manga volume itself is well made, and Del Rey's releases always includes a wealth of extras, if you're a negima in the US, you have no reason to not be buying the manga volumes, especially when they're as cheap as $3.00 dollars on Amazon, I got my volume at a local book store (Booksamillion) for $10.99.

The second manga I bought this week is the latest volume of Air Gear, volume 19 by Kodansha Comics, which I will allow insults on my decision on buying this.

Well, Air Gear has been terrible lately, the story is in a shit hole, but I've been following and buying the manga since early 2009, and I still like the characters at least.
The product itself is well made, as a series continued by Kodansha, it feels better than the Del Rey releases, but lacks the amount of extras that the other volumes had, but at least the previews return with these new releases.
But for $10.99, it's a worth while purchase for any fan of Air Gear, of course it's cheaper online, but I got's to support my local books store (The manga section decreased lately, because of Tokyo Pop's bullshit, thanks for nothing Stu).

OVERALL: While I regret my continued contribution of Air Gear, I'm more than happy with the rest of my purchases.

B- for this week.

For next week, I plan buying the Haruhi movie and Spice&Wolf season 2.
