Watching Mushishi anime now. I was trying to describe it to some friends over the weekend and failed completely. Everything I had to say about it made zero sense.

"So it's about these things and they're not plants or animals or micro-organisms but they're alive and cause problems but not on purpose just sorta wrong place wrong time thing. oh and there's this guy. and he wanders around and looks at them. oh and not everyone can see them. yeah."

While all of that is accurate it completely fails to portray how interesting this anime is. I really like it. The art, music, storytelling - all amazing. I'm on ep. 9 now and hooked. If this one keeps up the quality, I'm going to have to buy it. It's going to take several views to really appreciate it completely. Plus I want to see the art at DVD quality.

Kids might find this a bit slow-paced but I think the timing is perfect and adds to the general atmosphere which actually reminds me of how things feel when you walk through a dense, old forest on an overcast day.

One note of interest - the title song is by Ally Kerr who is a Scottish songwriter. His first album was released in 05 and was more popular in Japan than in the UK so I guess that's how it ended up on an anime. The song they choose fits the mood of the anime perfectly.
