Art style is *very* Similar to Stratos 4 as is the technical detail. The story is pretty straightforward, but you feel for the main character as she realizes what she wants to do with her life. A big recommendation here!
The similarities lie in the choice of characters and setting. In both series, the protagonists are high schoolers who are chosen to undergo pilots'/astronauts' training. The setting is on a sub-tropical island for both, with a remarkably similar choice of supporting characters (a slightly slutty but fearsome female instructor, a chinese inn where the protagonists stay, some otaku (not anime) at the base where they are stationed).
That is not to say that they are entirely the same, though. For instance, Rocket Girls is far more realistic depicting the technical aspect of the show (bar a few nonsensical things), while Stratos 4 sometimes foregoes technical accuracy for dramatic effect (which is all well and good, but it might tick off sticklers like me for a bit).

Great, realistic aerospace theme, but none of the wacky aliens to deal with. Lots of interesting characters, but none of them have gigantic, distracting boobs.

very similar in the idea, hot girls and good angles, stratos 4 doesnt have a guy on the lead like vandread, but its still a good serie to watch, they are both fun and both have a good story

just reading the plot stratos seem verry similer to stellvia since there are boys and girls tring to protect a major distater for destroying the earth and a girls is the main character. alhough stellvia is based is space and only one or two episodes are on earth stratos 4 seems to be bases majorly on earth by the way i am just about to start watching stratos 4 and this recomadation is based on the plot that i have read which has instantly reminded me of stellvia.
