Both sports anime that show the development of everyone as they play more and more matches.

Progressive growth of an underdog athlete. Similar style, competitive spirit, thrill. I love both a great deal.

Both anime have strikingly similar protagonist-deuteragonist dynamics (Sawamura-Miyuki x Hinata-Kageyama) dynamics, but the similarity doesn't stop at that. Both shows have: - proper step-by-step MC development, where they show enough of their struggle to reach the top - balanced spotlight between the main team and the antagonists, the wins and losses, the champions and the losers - sport trivia and strategy to make it somewhat educative - enough tension with the opposing team, but not too much to make them look like literal villain (you can still like your opponent)

Both take part into an intense (set of) match(s) in a national tournament First half of Chihayafuru 2 is completly, second part tho is where we have individual matches

Kono Oto Tomare! is about a musician group strives to prove themselves to their school and perform in inter-high competitions. The main difference is that Haikyuu focuses on a volleyball team. Common themes of self-development, friendship, teamwork, continual practice, and relationships with tension.
