Both have a pure fantasy adventure vibe to them. Both anime have MCs of a young age with a boy and a girl going on a journey. Merc Storia has a more lighthearted feel while Mahoujin Guru Guru focuses more on comedy. But they both leave you with a smile on your face.

Both have young protagonists adventuring the world with a weird companion. The story structure is similar in that they both have self contained stories that are resolved in one to two episodes but Kino no Tabi is more serious.

- Both feature fantastical worlds that the main character(s) travel across - Both have several episodic plots within the overarching journey - Both can get quite heavy at times - Both rely heavily on the notion that one’s journey is more important than the destination itself - Both treat their protagonists are mere ‘observers’ in worldly affairs for the most part, often being a window through the supporting characters can be show to viewers

Bad english ahead. Last period in comparison to Merc Storia is a little more fast paced. In the two animes the party goes from town to town solving other people problems in a very comedic and heartwarming way, very cute and childish. There are cute monster jumping around and messing things up.The mc in both series also quite similar physically. Even the pastel colors used are similar to a point.

Anthologies about healers who travel the lands, observing various cultures and helping people with their problems. Each tale often focusing on a single classic theme (e.g. family, independence, responsibility, romance). Merc Storia is mostly simple fairytales for younger audiences, while Mushishi is more contemplative folktales for mature ones.

Both are about encouraging coexistence and peace between mythical beasts and human beings.

Both shows have an exceptionally cute girls, who are both tiny and (I think) have no legs.
