Reikenzan: Eichi e no Shikaku

I think this might be the best recommendation, the same characters, atmosphere and each story has its own strength but there is a similarity between them. 

Both anime have spirits releated training, MC is badass 

The similarity here is the power they use it when they fighting to protect each other.  

The hero in this two anime has the same personality and charisma. 

It might be different in kind, but there is a simple similarity in terms of clothing and Technic/strategy.  

The same atmosphere, and the same period. 

The same kind.
