Both shows have in them practically designed mechs, as well as both shows depicts militarised conflicts in a sci-fi setting. While Votoms focuses on the battles, Dallos leans more of it's narrative ambiguity and it's strong themes.

If you're in the mood for a relatively grim space opera from the early 1980s, then Dallos and Terra e... are two anime that fit the bill and would be worth your time to watch if you enjoyed one of them already. Both series entail humans leaving earth due to its resources being depleted, and being unable to return years later due to discrimination from other humans. In Dallos and in Terra e... there are people on both sides of the conflict wanting peace, but this becomes extremely difficult due to the atrocities of war. Both shows are about conflicts between two humanoid races or factions, and their strange relation to a third party - a mechanical alien being, being revered as God with mysterious origin. Both shows also depicts the struggles of humankind, surviving in space, as well as the tensions between the Earthlings and the Settlers, tackled in a mature and serious way.

Both shows tackle the humankind's struggle to understand whether the wars are the absolute evil, or the necessery good. Also both shows explore in depth the character's motivation to struggle and to fight.

Both are about colonization of celestial bodies and settlements in form of glass domes. .Both show the conflict and divide among the natives of earth and colonizers .
