Would Aokana exist if it weren't for Air Gear? One of the first things popping into my head when I came across Aokana was to wonder if Air Gear did in fact play any influence. On top of this, there is the fact there aren't many series where there is an invented sport that attempts to defy gravity quite literally so that the characters can find themselves flying, with Aokana taking a more sci-fi approach than Air Gear ever did.

Jousting and Flying Circus: Ao no Kanata and Walkure Romanze are anime based on a visual novel focussing on an unusual sport. Walkure Romanze is about jousting, while Ao no Kanata is about a made-up sport called flying circus. Furhtermore, both anime have a very similar premise: a pink haired girl with no experience or whatsoever in the sport are challenged for a match with an experienced oujou-sama girl; however the newcomer seems to be very talented and beats the oujou-sama. Walkure Romanze is more ecchi, Ao no Kanata looks more promosing so far.

Both: Sport show with no romance and very little yuri context. Fictional sports established on sci-fi elements. Hype and GARR at the climax of the sports. Difference: GuP plays a team game while AoKana is about solo.

Both are about reviving dead school sports club. Both have strong matched. You will just feel the general idea is similar, plus they are both funny

Both titles take place in a coastal landscape with tree covered hills, a blue see and blue skys. Respectively, there is a fantastic technology or mystic power, that allows the protagonists to float in the air, or under water. Before these promising backgrounds, sensitive teenagers are entangled in romance or sports competitions, like seen in countless other titles. If you want to see beautiful backgrounds with potential for more used on commonplace characters and stories, both titles may be for you.

Similar girls sports anime with usual team / club recruitment, training, and big tournament at the end. And both is about "unusual sports" so it feel refreshing and something new. Tons of variety girls personality, with a lot of focus on their mentality and relationship. Male character are usually just a side character. Character design and the world look interesting. Both use 3D animation to enhance the impact of their battles.

The main female character from both anime are thrown into the world of acrobatics. In Kaleido Star, the main character dreams of performing in a Circus act. While in AoKana she realizes her true calling and delves into Flying Circus. Both of them are beginners but soon soar through the sky and captivates those around them. They have a very similar energetic personality.

Both are female-only, fictional sports anime where girls shoot each other using guns above the water in tights suits. Kandagawa Girls is ecchi and shows nipples, though Ao no Kanata is based on a hentai game the anime is all ages. Ao no Kanata feels more sci-fi and has cuter girls.

I think they have a similiar feeling to them. They're both lighthearted animes about young girls competing in sports. The main characters are similiar as well :)
