Both have realistic and realy sad story. Same drawing style. Classics from the 70´s. And they were both made by the same Director (Isao Takahata).

Epic stories based on classic literature. These two titles are directed by some of the biggest names in the anime industry and present a very similar feel of adventure, drama and exploration. Both anime are highly inspirational when it comes to traveling, showing us unique and vivid sceneries in countries such as Italy, Brazil, Argentina, France and others.

Both deal with the hardships of children in difficult times, looking for a way to improve their situation. Looking at both works, Marco is a bit more on the uplifiting side.

It's not so much about the similarity of story line or characters as it is a commonality of look and feel. I really think if you like 3000 Leagues In Search of Mother (aka Marco, From the Apennines to the Andes) you will enjoy the time you spend on the movie The Boy Who Saw the Wind.

Both Animes are about a boy, who is searching for one of his family members. While Marco is searching for his mother in argentinia, Porphy is searching for his little sister in west europe.
