InuYasha is more of a darker version of Marco, but it has angst and guilt in it which makes it more of the emotional type.
The characters are not similar; but they persuade goals that they must achieve, thus, analyze them by conflicting them with hard luck and opportunities, that they must choose which ones they're destined to, to make a deal in life. Marco is very angsty; but so as InuYasha, the more emotional type. You will enjoy one or the other, since they both deal with guilt and feelings.

It's not so much about the similarity of story line or characters as it is a commonality of look and feel. I really think if you like 3000 Leagues In Search of Mother (aka Marco, From the Apennines to the Andes) you will enjoy the time you spend on the movie The Boy Who Saw the Wind.
