Both are late-90's space adventures of ragtag teams aboard waifu-powered ships.

Both fall under the same categories; Sci-Fi, Adventure, Action and are both slightly Comedic. Both take place in space where the main protagonist is traveling from a planet to another trying to achieve their own goals whilst seeking vengeance. They are also both 26 episodes and have similar art style.

Both are lighthearted episodic sci-fi series that follow the misadventures of Trouble Consultants/Contractors, as they take assorted jobs around the galaxy and complete them with some foolery along the way.

While the first season of Birdy Decode is a bit chunky and awkward like the first half of Lost Universe, the second halves shine with gripping stories featuring tragic pasts and themes of revenge with characters grown mature and sympathetic.

LU and Slayers are set in the same Metaverse, being on worlds parallel to each other. LU's Universe crosses over into Slayers in TRY. Made by the same creator, and holds much of the same style of humor as Slayers does, except in a Sci-Fi setting instead of Fantasy
