It is similar because the main character is smart and wants peace, but there are differences among them the Light Yagami the main character of death note wants to kill anyone in his way to conquer the world while Lelouch the main character of Code Geass wants to defeat the Britannians.

Both stories follow a genius protagonist in his journey to change the world for good (well in their eyes) both of them certainly possess a unique ability that helps them in their way. If you are like me who loves to see anime with genius protagonists having their battle of wits and wisdom then these two will certainly be my first suggestion.

Code Geass is a bit like Death Note, but less dark and with mecha.
The main character is a bit like Light at first,
then acquires a power and gets into mischief like Light.

While both Code Geass and Death Note have supernatural powers, unexpected turn of events and young over the top intelligent main charecters that will do anything to achieve their goal even if it meant losing their empathy. Code Geass have mecha fights that rely on strategy and outsmarting the other opponent.
