| well, this question is for those who thinks Eva is a about depressed teens fighting with giant robots. Now if you really want to change Shinji without affecting the theme of the story much, then it can only be Asuka. Tho it would require a good amount of modification of certain aspects and events. |

| Don't know why people rush to call every non-episode related thread on this site bait. It's a valid question. There are many areas where I think Shinji could be a better protagonist, though as far as general character archetypes go I think he's the best fit for Eva |

| I think the series would benefit from a fewer number of episodes due to Shinji's characters arc, but I cannot agree with this statement. Shinji is such an integral part of Evangelion. Seeing him deal with the stress of his emotionally neglected background in the heat of adolescence while dealing with the world falling apart, being uplifted before brought down to his lowest in the series finale IS the main plotline. I do think Asuka should have played a larger part, but the idea that Asuka should be the lead is not something I really understand. |
