Anime Relations: Lupin III: Part III
Story

Lupin and Jigen search around Harlem to find a former New York Mafia member, Ed. Once they find him, they promise to get him anything he wants if he can tell them where the Mafia's HQ is. Lupin meets up with Fujiko, who is hooked up with a graffiti artist, and Lupin asks her if she wants to get on the $8 million heist they'll steal from the mafia. She declines but is secretly interested. The guys break in and easily make out with the money, but once they get back home, all the bills were faked. Lupin and Jigen talk at a diner, trying to figure out how to get the actual money. When the waiter puts their sandwiches on the table, a grenade is underneath. They escape and put the waiter at gunpoint, asking why he did that. He explains that the head of the New York mafia put a hit on them, so every mobster is after them. They're shot at again and run away. They run in front of a newspaper stand, and the lady tries to shoot them, the cab they take is set to explode, and they try to get help from the police, but they try shooting at them, they run into a subway, and the passengers try to shoot them, and finally escaping to a run-down building. And finally, a stack of dynamite is thrown at it, and it's blown up. No one knows they're alive, though. Fujiko gets her guy friend to graffiti a mansion that just so happens to be the mafia's hideout. Lupin and Jigen make their way there. While the guy wrecks the mansion, the guys take the opportunity to break in, too, and get the actual money.

This episode increasingly got better as it went on. I wasn't anything super interesting, but then the second half kicked in, and it's super high-energy, super fun, and super crazy. There is no stop action and I love the chaoticness of it. That was definitely the highlight for this episode. Honestly, the rest of it is alright. The first half is okay and the climax at the mansion is okay, but my interest definitely dwindled by that point.

Characters

Lupin and Jigen going through the motions is something I love so much. While they're together all the time, this episode was mainly just those two; Goemon and Fujiko barely make an appearance, so it's just uninterrupted Lupin and Jigen fun. I love how high pitched Jigen was while running it's so cute.

Goemon is in his villain arc (going to bed early). Goemon's such a guy. It was so cute when Lupin pretends to be the FBI raiding the mafia and Goemon's so annoyed by him and then he ends up saying this is a shishigumi raid and then he says he's caught Lupin's stupidity. I can't remember if this is the first time Goemon's said that but he definitely says that a lot. God, their dynamic is so good.

ZENIGATA SAID I LOVE YOU. moving on...

Art/Animation

FUN FUN FUN. The action so dynamic and crazy and the way it's animated and the camera angles just add to the insanity. Please give me balls-to-the-wall action!!!!

GAY GAY GAY GAY Yeah, I really went frame for frame to look at all that. I love them. Go Jiglup misadventures go!!

Tama vs Godzilla is something I NEED to see. I actually didn't know that cat was a character. Although I don't know what it is a character for. I remember just seeing it on like school supplies at Japanese gift shops when I was young.

God, this rocks. The amount of detailing you'd have to do on the tree trunk. It flows with a lot of great dynamism.
