Although each is different in how the "doctor" "treats" and some other aspects, both focus on wandering doctors with episodic stories about various spirits.
Both tell compelling and satisfying episodic stories involving spirits or yokai.
The MC's travel and meets People as they go with backstories, some Good, some Sad.
They always need some help which is given for some small payment.
Very similar structures. Both focus on traveling spirit doctors who must understand the stories of their patients to help them. Mushishi is a bit more minimalist and I like it's pace more (its my favorite anime of all time). That said I was very impressed with the storytelling of Bai yao pu particularly in the most recent third season. Both are extremely special shows!
