Good over-all, but the slow start brings it down a bit. Unlike some other anime like this, I couldn't really connect with the side characters who had focus at the beginning. Once Misuzu's and Kana's arcs start, it gets more interesting.

I remember a lot that I liked about this, but at the same time I remember it being very fast paced and disjointed. It seems like it is geared as fanservice to those who already read the manga, and so it does not really stand alone well.
I hope if I see it again the rating would be somewhat improved. |

Ar Tonelico: Sekai no Owari de Utai Tsuzukeru Shoujo
Gets an overly high score of 8, simply because of how well they animated Orica. They managed to add a lot to her via subtle body language that was missing from the game. Alas I am rerating a lot of anime on my list in favor of better accuracy.

There are parts of this show that are much better than 7, but other parts that are only of average quality. There's a lot of material in this 26 episode show, so it alternates between moving rather slowly, focusing on characters you don't care about, then having good and hilarious character building, to having action scenes that range from boring to rushed to awesome.
Similarly the animation quality is all over the place, with very obvious animation hits in some episodes. (Poor Fate's final battle scene was ruined.) |

This is a tough one to rate. It did not impact me as much on a personal level the way my 10s have. It just didn't get under my skin as much as I wanted it to. I suspect it's because its lack of lighthearted moments resulted in me remaining emotionally guarded throughout. However, it's certainly better than many of the other anime I gave a 9 to.

Persona: Trinity Soul
I love the persona games for how perfectly they incorporate symbols into the game. They use symbols in a complex and well thought out way that really adds to the game, and hides additional background information for those capable of deciphering them. This anime was based on the Persona world and so incorporates symbolism very heavily. Unfortunately whoever made it lacks the talent found at Atlus. There is so much reliance on symbolism it's almost nonsensical. If _I_ had to work so much to understand just the basic story, I imagine the average viewer to be left completely confused about what is going on.

Ragnarök The Animation
If I use Star Ocean EX as a barometer for video game anime.... and then consider this is based on a Korean Grinding MMO... This anime is surprisingly good and exceeded my low expectations. Yes, it's low budget and so has a signature special move where the same animation is used repeatedly throughout the series. However, given what they had to work with, they actually made a story that holds interest, and if anything portrays the original game and it's mechanics in a sinister way. It goes so far as to suggest level grinding is evil, without actually having levels. I loved this.

Saikano is a very good story. However, some of the most important themes had to be toned down for the anime, as certain scene as necessary to make those themes work as well as they did cannot be shown on TV... The result is an anime with an ending that makes next to no sense.
If you watch the anime I cannot recommend reading the last volume of the manga enough. Provided you are over 18 and understand how to read symbolism. |

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun
Would get a similar rating to Index, except that the filler was much more prominent and hurt this series much more. The first 13 episodes are fine and follow the manga well, with a little bit of added filler that does not detract. The second half of the series is entirely made for TV, so that they can postpone starting the story arc we were all waiting for to the next season. At least kadokawa attempted to be creative when they did this with haruhi.... in the end it should have been 13 episodes, not 24.
