3 | ![]() | Aho Girl That show was an experience if nothing else. The slapstick was usually quite good, but honestly it made me uncomfortable at times. Many of the jokes would rely on physical pain for a punchline which is okay once in a while, less okay when its 3/episode (and each episode is 10 minutes). A lot of them would also be somewhat cringy, which while I understand was the goal for Yoshiko, didn't really make it better. That aside, the voice acting was great and the rest of the humour was good. 7/10 overall. | 7 | TV | 12

5 | ![]() | Alice to Zouroku This show did many things well and I have no faults with it. The animation was clean and well done. The action scenes were dynamic and clear, the emotional scenes had excellent atmosphere, and the general bright mood to the show made the dark parts all that much more effective. The music and soundtrack are phenomenal. The opening theme is good, no complaints. It's a fairly standard opening with some disco elements that aren't usually mixed into anime OPs. The mood music all fit and all added to any mood the show was going for, whether mystery and intrigue, action, joy, sadness, or fear. The closing theme was easily the strongest of any anime in a while. It had interesting animation on it's own, plus it effortlessly captures the overall joyous mood of the show. Where this show stands head and shoulders above other shows is the portrayal of children. The voice acting was great but the real show was in the interactions. These kids turn to authority when they're unsure. They try to solve their own problems and face the consequences of their inabilities and lack of experience. This sort of thing is alarmingly rare in "serious" anime and it was nice to see it here. Of course, I too now want an old Japanese man to tell me he's sick of this shit and teach me life lessons. Zoroku's character, while not very easy for me to understand (me being as young as I am), was very strong and very consistent in thought process and actions. He's old fashioned, and takes responsibility for his charges whenever possible. This leads to some more outrageous situations but it worked well in the end. I have no complaints about this show. 10/10, would watch again. | 10 | TV | 12

11 | ![]() | Blend S It was cute and fun but if you think about it for too long it sort of becomes weird. The female lead is attracted to the male lead because of her fetish for "the exotic" and the male lead is a lolicon frequently flirting with a highschooler. Granted, its funny enough that I didn't care while I was watching it. Its just in the week since I've seen it that I thought of these issues. I enjoyed it, animation was good, pacing was good, and the jokes all rang true. If you don't think about it: 7/10, if you do: 5/10. | 7 | TV | 12

15 | ![]() | Boku no Hero Academia 2nd Season This show was straight fire. The tournament arc (made the meme) was intense and the first op this season was sick. The second opening was a voiceleading (music theory) disaster, though, with many gaps between upper voices in excess of an octave. Honestly though, that was a minor issue, the rest of the sound track was sick and the animation was phenomenal. The characters are great and the arcing is clean. My only issue is the cliffhanger that the season left on. If it chose a perfect cadence instead of evading it (music theory again) then I would give this a 10/10. | 9 | TV | 25

20 | ![]() | Centaur no Nayami This show had very little in terms of plot and consistency. There were characters that you'd expect to see more of but didn't, like the kohai who just wanted to be noticed by Hime-senpai and went on a date with her, the secret service agent, and the shitty father just to name a few. There wasn't an overarching plot (not necessarily bad, just worth noting for people watching), but there were subplots going on behind that we as viewers didn't really get a full view of due to a variety of factors like the limited amount of time the season had. The animation was fine, the fan-service was not glaring (mostly), and the character designs were interesting. To combat these negative points, this show did three things very well. First: World Building. We don't really get to see everything about the world, only bits and pieces here and there, but what we see is fucking crazy amounts of detail (at least for things not regarding the snake people, or sneple as they were referred to on reddit and I will be calling them as such from here on). There was history, global conflicts, rights of minorities, a stance on gay rights, anything you could think of was there. Second: Characterization. For the characters that did return, you found yourself endeared to them as they interacted and developed. The class rep and her family were all great (except for the dad), Hime and her cousin were adorable, the friends and classmates were all well written, even our local snerson (?) was shown discovering what it was like moving to and living in Japan, as well as the challenges that brings. It was all quite interesting. Third: It sold the manga. You bet your ass I'm going to go read that now. I'm hooked, I want to know more about the sneple, about angel Hitler (yeah, I know, right?), Sue-chan and other half-breeds, and so much more. This show is great for people who like world building, as that is what this show does. Honestly, I'd recommend reading the manga first. I imagine there is less censorship (the mermaids (!) don't wear shirts, among other things) and you don't get stuck on the unfortunate timing of the show. Due to the other problems this show had I'm giving it a 7/10, but I did thoroughly enjoy and would recommend. | 7 | TV | 12

23 | ![]() | Citrus Watching this anime is not unlike watching a fireworks factory explode during the day. You know some people are dying, and it isn't even that bright compared to the sunshine around it, but you just can't look away. The sexual assaults outnumbered the consensual advances, even considering the last episode (with four consensual advances and no assaults). There were 6 bath scenes, some of which had sexual assaults. The Sexual Assault theme was also always done on bassoon, which was a weird choice. It took something that was unusual, and then added an instrument most people don't expect when watching anime (while the rest of the soundtrack was kinda meh as well). It was weird. | 3 | TV | 12

30 | ![]() | Darling in the FranXX This show is very strange. I'm not really sure how to articulate it fully. There were parts I did not like. There was a lot of sexual assault at the start, and the mecha system felt very weird for a while. There were also parts I enjoyed. Kokoro's child was a very interesting development and all of the buildup on that side plot added a lot to the show. Many people dislike how Zero Two tamed out after being with Hiro for so long, but it makes sense if you think about it for a second. She was someone who wanted to fit in more than anyone else, of course she would fall in line a bit so as to not alienate her friends. They don't really deal with the passage of time well. It jumps all over the place. There were episodes that would take place over the course of ten minutes, and then others that would be an hour. Ironically, the long time-scale episodes (like the last, the ones that take place in the months-years range) were the clearest and best paced. The ending was satisfying, but I was sad to see the heroes of the story kamikaze. That is a good thing. It did make me feel, it wasn't just mindless entertainment. My biggest gripe is that I wish they gave VIRM more warning. In some of Hiroyuki Imaishi's other works the core villain would be introduced no later than halfway, ie Gurren Laggan, or would be there from the start. VIRM feels unexpected when they're introduced so close to the end. The story could have ended sooner but it didn't, just to have the heroes die tragically. Past that, very well done show. Would recommend to people with anime-acclimatized pallet. | 9 | TV | 24

50 | ![]() | Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san It was a comedy, so you can't really go wrong. I had read the manga and enjoyed it. I think the thing that bothered me the most was the soundtrack. It went for that basic kind school soundtrack with recorders and piano and shit. Not really feeling it. The OP was okay as well, not a banger but it was good enough. You could really feel the strain on the singer's voice when she got up to the high range though. Nishitake's VA had a whiny voice that fit the character but was kind of grinding to listen to. | 6 | TV | 12

52 | ![]() | Kemono Friends This was an interesting piece. The music was interesting, using an American style of dubstep for the action sequences. Everywhere else it was light, fitting the mood quite well. The characters were all stupid BUT that was validated. All the Friends were animals before they got their human forms, it's no wonder they can't read or use fire. Beyond that they were all charming in their own ways, or at least the ones that got some focus (sorry Hippo, kinda lame). Serval, the endless ball of energy was funny and Kaban's reliable nature made things interesting. The voice acting was also quite good, no complaints. The world was very interesting, I'm pretty sure it was the real focus of the show. If you like Adventure Time then you would like this. There are so many details and they were always kept consistent. The relationships between different Friends was also captured in an interesting way, I would like to see more but I'm not sure if it would happen. What is stopping this from getting a 10? The animation. Granted, it was better than Berserk, but is that really a bar to reach? It was all CG, low movement, low effects. After a while you get used to it and stop noticing it, but I do need to say that it was really rough on that edge. Overall: 8/10. I would recommend and if my watch list wasn't so long I would watch it again. | 8 | TV | 12

58 | ![]() | Knight's & Magic I literally started watching this because with all of the robots running around and magic being cast there was a high chance of Rie Takahashi saying explosion. I continued to watch it because of that as well. The story was trash, there was no conflict that the main character couldn't overcome instantly. The fanservice was tastefully low. This show didn't need to be an isekai, it would have had the same effect if they had just relied on talent instead. Granted, I prefer the theme of hardwork over talent anyways, but this kid just kept on dunking on everyone he faced, there was no challenge EVER. Credit where credit is due: The CGI was amazing, the fights were well put together and the robots were all stunning. This show is nothing. No one's character developed, no one died forcing a change in the main cast, and nothing in the cast's relationships changed. Do not watch this show. | 4 | TV | 13

85 | ![]() | New Game! | 7 | TV | 12
86 | ![]() | New Game!! This show did so many things well. They really pushed past the last season in terms of pretty much everything. I'll start with getting small things out of the way. The animation was great, the shots were great, and the detail was phenomenal. This season there was emotional growth the likes of which were unprecedented. Aoba dealing with failure, Ko wanting to find her place in the world and wanting to keep growing, Rin being honest with her feelings, Yun welcoming Hajime into her family, Nene dealing with failure the tedium and frustration of programming, hell, even the interns - who were introduced six episodes in - arced. I was seriously not expecting this from some 2016 d-list Yuri bait anime. The plot-line was also good. It was them putting out a new game (how unexpected). It did serve as a device to do a lot of things, though. It created a (tournament arc) competition, problems, challenges to overcome either individually or collaboratively. I rate this season 10/10. The only thing that would have made it better is if Rin and Ko actually kissed on screen. They really gave it the good ol' KyoAni "bait-and-switch," unfortunately, but they come as close to a gay confession (that wasn't riddled with rape scenes: ala NTR) as we are likely going to get for a while. Good stuff. Would recommend almost unconditionally. | 10 | TV | 12
87 | ![]() | Nichijou This was a very strong comedy show. The visual humor was top tier. I would highly recommend it to anyone. My only qualm was the Go-Soccer Sensei's character. They used a wide variety of mediums to subvert expectations, they had new VAs every episode, and they would vary storylines enough to keep them interesting. My key flaw with this series is that they would just repeat the same episode twice with only minor alterations. It felt like a chore to watch the same episode twice. | 7 | TV | 12

97 | ![]() | Renai Boukun This show did a lot of things fine. The comedy was more often than not in Tsukkomi-Boke style, to varying degrees of success. There was a lot of room for visual humour but they only used the same dozen (maybe) visual jokes through the whole run (the penguin, the kukris, etc). It had an honest-to-goodness Yandere in the foreground which was nice, but she ended up as part of a harem in the end. The harem was a mixed blessing, while it had the yandere it also had (female lead (who wasn't a yandere), cinnamon role), (little sister, tsundere), and Shikimi. Shikimi made me genuinely uncomfortable, she's a serial vandal, kleptomaniac, and probably a rapist. There were two separate scenes where she tried to rape the MC just to fuck with her cousin (the Yandere) and (female lead) respectively. The interesting part of the harem is (little sister, siscon, drill-loli) who is unabashedly trying to win her (yandere) (half)sister's sexual/romantic affections away from the MC. (Little sister, siscon)'s character could've been a lot more interesting, had she not showed signs of romantic interest in the MC in the same way as the other little-sister-type in the series. The way magic plays a role in this series is not much more than a plot device to be honest, but that isn't really an issue because they are consistent in how it's presented. As far as harems go this show hit par, as far as comedies go it hit par, as far as fantasy world building goes it hits par. Because it does all of these things at average the show gets a slightly above average score. I wouldn't watch it again. | 6 | TV | 12

111 | ![]() | Slow Start Super cute and had an actual Yuri subplot going which was fun. However, the bait-to-payoff scale was way out of whack. There were the ambiguous yuri-grandma pair, Tama in general, Kamu x Eiko, and Hiroe and Shion. The only two confirmed gay characters in the series were Eiko and her teacher, while everyone else just made a lot of gay sexual jokes. This would be fine if they were handled like in New Game, but setting up Eiko x Sensei after 3 episodes of settling Kamu x Eiko was jarring. Beyond that though, the show was exceptionally moe, probably as close as one could get to a true definition of the term in these times. The voice acting was good, and the OP was also incredibly moe, but the rest of the soundtrack was pretty basic. If a season two comes out, I would watch it purely to find out what becomes of the Sensei and Eiko. Honestly not expecting a lot from the rest of the cast. | 6 | TV | 12

The music was great. Old school orchestral setting, recorded live, excellent voicing, and melodies were clear when the scene allowed. The opening was used sparsely, as were the closings - which were also usually integrated for effect. The voice acting was breathtaking. You could feel the pain, the sorrow, the joy, the anger. This show took my breath away, and they've confirmed more. I can't think of anything I would look forward to more. Tl;dr I cried like a bitch most episodes | 10 | TV | 13

141 | ![]() | Yuru Camp△ This show was quite good. Very cute. The soundtrack was simple but fitting. Unique in it's instrumentation which relied very heavily on solo guitar, something you'd expect to hear while camping. The OP was pretty fire, some heavy Michael Jackson influence happening. The pacing was just right. It showed the full effect of camping without wasting time with things that weren't relevant to the plot. Having an anime about the Fall come out in Winter though was strange. The animation was fine, nothing of note, kind of average for the genre. You could really feel the research that went into making this though, the mangaka had to be really serious about camping to pull this off. Rin and Nadeshko are also very cute as a duo. I would watch more of them in the future no question. | 8 | TV | 12
142 | ![]() | Zombieland Saga Holy fuck this was amazing. Went in expecting horror, ended up with what may be the greatest Idol show ever written. The CGI was at about a Kemono Friends level when it was there but otherwise the animation was dynamic and lively. The plots were all bittersweet but it resulted in what might have been the most fun season finale I've ever seen. Watching it as it was streaming for the first time has lifted my spirits greatly. The sound track is an 11/10. The lyrics were unironically great, the rhythms and melodies were hype, even the switching between voicing was clever. I'm going to order the soundtrack once it is released. The Manager was an amazing character. His voice took a lot of abuse sometimes but all of his scenes were touching. His charisma was insane. 5/7 idols had episodes dedicated to their backstories and they were all great. For the most part they weren't happy, all of them had died and we saw their friends/family in the present. Saki's friend had a daughter, Lily's dad hadn't moved on, and Sakura, upon remembering, was just tragic but highly relatable. Lily is best girl, Saki would be a great roll-model if she wasn't a literal Kamikaze, and Yugiri has the hardest slap in the East. If I could give this show a 15/10 I would. | 10 | TV | 12

146 | ![]() | Hajimete no Gal It's trashy, which some people like. The MC is incredibly weak willed which I do not like or relate to. There was a rape attempt on him in the third episode which I really did not like. This is a trashy show in a post Eromanga-Sensei world. If it doesn't compete with that at least then there is really no point in watching it. | 4 | TV | 4

150 | ![]() | Mahou Shoujo Ore It was funny at the start for the shock value but after taking a break from anime for personal reasons for about a month and coming back to it the show was just too much. It was almost all meta with no real sustenance and a lot of the voice acting just wasn't that great. | 4 | TV | 3
