Tatsuki Fujimoto's horror action manga Chainsaw Man ended with its 97th chapter in the second 2021 issue of Weekly Shounen Jump on Monday. The issue also revealed that a second part will run in Shounen Jump+ web magazine.

A television anime adaptation of the manga was also announced in the issue. Shueisha simultaneously opened an official website, revealing a teaser visual (pictured). The anime series will be produced by animation studio MAPPA (Dorohedoro, Jujutsu Kaisen).

Synopsis
Denji has a simple dream—to live a happy and peaceful life, spending time with a girl he likes. This is a far cry from reality, however, as Denji is forced by the yakuza into killing devils in order to pay off his crushing debts. Using his pet devil Pochita as a weapon, he is ready to do anything for a bit of cash.

Unfortunately, he has outlived his usefulness and is murdered by a devil in contract with the yakuza. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Pochita merges with Denji's dead body and grants him the powers of a chainsaw devil. Now able to transform parts of his body into chainsaws, a revived Denji uses his new abilities to quickly and brutally dispatch his enemies. Catching the eye of the official devil hunters who arrive at the scene, he is offered work at the Public Safety Bureau as one of them. Now with the means to face even the toughest of enemies, Denji will stop at nothing to achieve his simple teenage dreams. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Fujimoto launched Chainsaw Man in Weekly Shounen Jump in December 2018, following the conclusion of his Fire Punch manga in Shounen Jump+ in January that year. Shueisha published the ninth volume on November 4, with the tenth volume scheduled for a January 4, 2021 release. Chainsaw Man has a cumulative 5 million copies of its volumes in print.

VIZ Media published the first three chapters in English simultaneously with the Japanese release as a part of its Jump Start initiative and subsequently serialized it in their digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The company now simulpublishes the manga on its new Shounen Jump platform and shipped the second volume on December 1. Shueisha's Manga Plus service also began simulpublishing the manga in English last January.

Chainsaw Man won fourth and first place in the 2020 and 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings in the male readers' division, respectively. The manga also placed second in both the 15th edition of Recommended Comics Selected by Japanese Bookstore Employees and the fifth Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho's print category. The 13th Manga Taisho and 66th Shogakukan Manga Awards nominated the manga in March and November this year.
