Kyoto Animation posted a trailer for the Violet Evergarden side story on Tuesday, subtitled Ein to Jidou Shuki Ningyou, revealing two new cast members and previewing the film's theme song, "Amy," by Minori Chihara. The trailer was released along with further details on the film's official website.
Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Ein to Jidou Shuki Ningyou depicts the life of Isabella York, a noble woman and heir to the house of York who is forced by her father to attend a school for privileged young women. Despite the school's outward beauty, it is no more than a prison to her as she suffocates within its confines. With all hope lost she meets Violet Evergarden, who is assigned as her personal instructor. In the beginning, Isabella is not too fond of Violet, either.
Minako Kotobuki (K-On!) will voice Isabella. Aoi Yuuki (Gosick) was also announced as Taylor Bartlett, an orphan girl who visits during Violet's assignment. Voice actors playing members of the CH Postal Company will reprise their roles in the film, including Yui Ishikawa as Violet Evergarden.
The film's world premiere was held as planned at Germany's AnimagiC convention with showings on August 3 and 4, shortly after the July 18 arson attack on Kyoto Animation's No.1 studio. The official theatrical run will extend until September 26; it was previously scheduled to screen in select theaters in Japan from September 6 through September 19.
