7 Cowboy Bebop
you must acquire a taste for free-form jazz.

you never should really say anything's perfect, but comeon, cowboy bebop kinda has NO flaws.
it's animation, over all aesthetic, soundtrack, and world building are genuinely solid as hell.

it's more just than iconic, it STAYS with you. one of my favourites. also, do yourself a favour, watch the dub.

really wanted to like it, I just couldn't for the most part. so much of the show should've resonated, but it really just didn't.

aesthetically jaw-dropping, the camera is phenomenal and the soundtrack is dope too. (has my favourite OP songwise).
my biggest caveat is the characters, the majority of its pacing clunky and i really struggled to keep watching, most of these issues didn't fix until the last quarter.

honestly, just look at the concept art instead.

y'know how people say you shouldn't skip parts? yeah that's a discussion I can't fit into a brief comment, but imo, you can totally skip parts. part 1 (eps 1-9) are pretty trash.

part 2 (eps 10 - 26) are solid, great visual design and probably my favourite anime OST. SHIT BANGS. I don't listen to OSTs that much anymore, but part 2 is genuinely one of the best I've listened to, and I'll constantly comeback to it.

I guess the stories good too, like if you're gonna watch if, you're gonna watch it regaurdless of what I say.

read the manga instead. this isn't a meme. yeah, sure you don't get the funny jojo engrish shit, but you aren't missing out on much.

The art style and story is so much more appreciable as a manga, and future installments handle adapting so much better. you also get to say you read the manga, which instantly gives online cool points.

josuke's a goofy teenager who just wants to hang with their friends, and honestly I can't blame 'em.

personal favourite (animated) jojo part

Re-watching
current strongest jojo anime adaptation, reccomended unironically.

animation is solid, soundtrack is bangin' and the sound design is JUICY.

you probably have some idea to what jojo already is, this is the closest you're getting to that mental image.

32 Samurai Champloo
I never found myself invested in the characters; getting invested at all actually is kinda difficult, any tension of setup dissolves instantly whenever the arc ends. Champloo excells in style with it's legendary soundtrack and killer fight scenes, but has little to offer beyond that. Champloo fails in both wanting to be non-consequential and light hearted, but also extremely nuanced, gritty and emotionally deep, and that story telling whiplash w/ zero visible character motivation made it kinda difficult for me to finish.

even the pacing is philosophical. call it schrodinger's anime, every scene takes ages but you'll still feel like it's going too fast.

37 Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
First 3 episodes rock, 4-7th are slow, 8 kicks ass, and 11 onwards just keeps getting better.

The raw extacy oozing from Gurren Lagann is - and I'm dead serious when I say this, can be life changing.

This show also has some killer explosions and frankly some of the best character design I've seen period. I'm definitely overselling it here, but if it sounds like your cup of tea, give it a shot. Chumps like me can hyper-fixate over it for like 7 years, so it's bound to be decent, right?

oh yeah, and the dub pretty good, you can do either here.

40 Trigun
Genuinely fantastic! I'd consider trigun a perfect anime if not for two very distinct failings that are so unavoidable it drags the show down, that being Meryl's two dimensional characterization in the first quarter of the series and Vash's *quirky* sexual harassment (which literally clashes with his entire identity).

Trigun's greatest strength is it's unique approach to storytelling, having an slow burning plot that seemingly has its tone switch on a dime, which is frankly fuckin awesome. Every new development will constantly contribute to a greater narative, just when you think you've figured out the show it'll gladly subvert your expectations in unique ways you probably couldn't even consider. It's because of Trigun's lack of complacency I found myself constantly invested as the world slowly revealed itself.

It's bangin' soundtrack, killer late 90s early 2000s aesthetic and phenomenal story telling makes Trigun a must watch in my opinion. Get past the first 4 episodes and you're in for a real treat.
