Manga 'Coppelion' Ends Eight-Year Serialization

Tomonori Inoue's science fiction action manga Coppelion has ended its eight-year run in the March 2016 issue of Monthly Young Magazine. The issue containing the final chapter goes on sale on February 20. The final two compiled volumes, 25th and 26th, will be released together on April 6.

Coppelion is set in the year 2036 after Tokyo has experienced a nuclear disaster. It follows three girls who aid the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in rescuing survivors from areas contaminated by radioactivity. The girls' genetically-modified bodies allow them to move about the devastated city freely.

The manga began its serialization in Weekly Young Magazine but switched to a monthly release schedule in 2012. North American publisher Viz Media announced at Otakon 2014 that it was in talks to acquire the series for an English release, but there has been no update since.

Coppelion was first announced to receive an anime adaptation in 2010, but the project was put on hold after the 2011 tsunami that struck northeastern Japan caused the failure of a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. Production continued in 2013, and the TV anime began airing for 13 episodes that October.
