Aki-Sora
This was not bad in the slightest, but the content was questionable. I mean, the characters weren't too bad. I liked Aki and Sora, and some other characters along the way. That wasn't my problem though. The countless amounts of sex in each chapter or two was just a bit excessive. This is an ecchi manga and I know it is, but the overwhelming amount of panels dedicated to it just was... eugh. That aside, I thought the story was heartwarming minus the sex. Incest is commonly looked down on, and the struggle to prove sibling love really stands out here. To make things quick, Aki-Sora isn't terrible; the story is well written and the characters aren't too shabby. However, there's too many explicit scenes that just ruin things, like what fan service does to anime. It's not overly needed. |

Asu no Yoichi!
This was a pretty stereotypical approach to the harem genre. It follows the same trends; nice guy protagonist with many girls captivated by his actions. The twist added is just a samurai theme, with clans that fight said main character. Even with the stereotypical approach, the thing about this manga is that not all girls are in love with Yoichi. Only about 1/4 of the female cast, in fact. It keeps things controllable and not everything gets out of hand. The art was not bad, but not spectacular in any way. The story was pretty good; I enjoyed how each chapter directly led to the next. Characters aren't awful, but they are kind of bad. I see tons of throwaway characters that reappear only once or twice. That's boring, and the repeating characters get boring due to lack of new faces. The story arcs do a good job of making that sense of resolution at the end. Each enemy in these arcs also turns out to be interesting, and the characters present in these arcs aren't too shabby. Overall, I really enjoyed this manga. The pros lie with the nice flowing story along with interesting arcs, while it's hindered by a stereotypical harem premise with bad characters. Give it a read if you like harems, samurais, or decent story. |

Ha, this manga is HILARIOUS. Art style is nice for a slice of life. The 4-panel style fits perfectly. The length of its run is its downfall, but I respect it. |

Battle Royale
This was a great manga based on the psychological genre. Hunger Games inspiration, am I right? The elements in this manga are nailed to a teeth. There are countless times where I feel emotionally sad at the deaths of certain players. The growing insanity of each player is an interesting concept. Everyone's condition slowly or rapidly deteriorates over the course of the Program. Since it is a seinen manga, the gory killings are everywhere, especially with Kiriyama, and it's directly contrasted with sex/rape scenes based on Souma. This manga is truly a masterpiece in terms of quality male manga. The premise is amazing, the action and suspense is captured perfectly, and the horror and psychological elements play with your mind. A sickening combo. Read Battle Royale only if you prefer a different pace of manga. If blood, explosions, weapons, and insanity are up your alley, give it a go. |

Blood Parade
Really underrated shounen supernatural manga. The premise is by far, the most interesting when it comes to vampires. Perfect in every way. Story was quite good. I liked the revelation of the Mayfords' past in the latter half. Characters are strong and balanced, with a few exceptions. The other Apostles were standard filler characters, and the only ones interesting enough were Gilles, Luna, Abel, the director, and Kay. The art was fitting for the tone of the setting. The dark panels coupled with the massive amounts of blood complement the story. My biggest gripe with this manga is the ending. It's too early to end like that. It should have ended with Gilles killing Luna or something. Just saying there's a new mission changes nothing. Too sudden, too Paramount, too bad. All in all, this is a great series to read to get into the supernatural genre, but be warned of the ending and the throwaway characters that could have been star players. Very impressive for 12 chapters, at the very least. |

Countrouble
This was a pretty good romance manga that ended with a rush. The story was another new twist on romance, based on the number 10. Seriously, 10's are everywhere, and sometimes make the manga really funny in certain parts. Characters got lazy over time. As the series went on, the main characters began to rush in their decisions of "love," in a way. The end was really dumb because it felt way too rushed, due to the characters. Art style is different from the common style now, but still very nice-looking. I liked looking at the art a lot, and it felt right for certain parts of the manga. Countrouble isn't perfect, but it's well above average and warrants a read in my book. If you like to read about love and romance, try this series. |

Da Capo
This manga is truly the definition of a "guilty pleasure." I'm a sucker for romance plot, but the execution is so BAD. The plot development is aggravatingly random, with a sudden confession and a sudden "I love my sister" moment. Character development sucks. Everyone is just a character being drawn, with no life whatsoever. This only goes high up because of the romance that I like. Take that out and it's shit. That driving love is the only redeeming quality. |

Dracu-Riot!
This was interestingly fun to read. The story was a bit dumb, but it's short so that's fine. The constant talk about sex is a little irritating, and the romantic elements are done pretty terribly. The ending was too much of a cliffhanger for me. I need a definitive end, writers. Not a bad manga at all. It's just a bit misguided, what with being based on an eroge. |

Elfen Lied
So sad... Elfen Lied gets gruesome and bloody at times, but it's countered with the psychological development of everyone, like emotionally disturbing scenes. Characters are great, especially Bandou. Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi
Fire Emblem is a great game series, and this is a great manga adaptation. Since I played FE6, the nostalgia of seeing the recruitable characters was great. Action scenes were good for this adaptation. The emotional value was astounding. I love the ending, with the character epilogues and a happily-ever-after ending. Great series to pick up if looking for some shounen style manga based on games. |

GE: Good Ending
This was a beautiful love story that got cheesy later on. The story was almost flawless; the only complaint I have is the predictable plot. I could see things coming a mile away. Characters are interesting, with each person given a "lover" in terms of main characters. The pairings truly bring out the best in the people in the relationships. Art style isn't bad, but a bit too realistic for my taste. I like moe a bit better, but a semi-realistic person looks fine. The best part of the manga definitely is the ending. That was amazing, and the 10 year later epilogue is something I like to see. Overall, Good Ending isn't perfect; the predictable plot elements sour the taste. However, it's a must read for a casual reader for the romance genre. It's captivating and sucks you right in. |

Gisou Honey Trap
This was a surprisingly good twist on the romantic drama genre. Instead of a platonic relationship in the beginning, we have two siblings who hate their cousin for forgetting a promise. Intriguing to the stereotypical high school romance. The art is rather good. It's not super amazing, but it's nice to look at. There's a lot of realistic-cartoony drawing to the good old chibi, which is pretty nice in drawing variation. The story was the best part. I thought it was really easy to get sucked in. There's something about this manga that makes me want to see the resolution at the end. Maybe the mending of the relationship was what I thought of. There aren't a lot of bad things to pick on about this. I guess it is a bit short at 12 chapters, and maybe there were some cliche moments here and there. Overall, this is a good series to pick up if you like different takes on romance and drama. The style is pretty good, and even though it's only 12 chapters, it has a good feeling of resolution at the end. Try it out. |

GTO
This is the first 10 I've given to a manga thus far. After reading quite a few manga series, this is the first. Great Teacher Onizuka. Quite possibly the most amazing manga based around an indestructible, strong, temperamental, but completely likable teacher. This manga is so good, it's going to be my first review. I loved all the elements, and it can't all be described here in one sitting. You want a general breakdown of everything that made this manga great? Well... you have the cunning class of 3-4, the faculty of Holy Forest Academy, Onizuka's friends, the relief of solving emotional trauma, the crazy situations Onizuka ends up in, the antagonistic characters turned good by Onizuka, and much, much more. GTO is not just some chip off the block. It is, quite possibly, the greatest "realistic" manga to ever be made on the face of the planet. More in the review! |

IS: Infinite Stratos
Not bad for a light novel adaptation, not bad at all. The setting was a bit strained for my taste. I mean, only one guy being able to pilot an IS surrounded by girls is bound for harem. The action was pretty well done. I enjoyed all the explosions each page had to offer. Moreover, the story wasn't too hard to understand. Action and plot development are quite well balanced with each other. Characters are too simple and are 1.5 dimensional. What I mean is that the female main leads are too easy to sway; after a single major event involving them and Ichika, it's reborn or new love. What the hell? My overall thoughts are that Infinite Stratos isn't terrible, what with good plot pacing and action. However, the boring and simple characters really bring this down. Still, it's worth the read since it's only 26 chapters long. |

Enjoyable, but not as good as Bamboo Blade. Too many characters to keep track of! So many schools and people, it gets really jumbled up later on. The "ghost mentor" idea, though a bit overused, is done fine here. The ending was a bit anti-climatic. All that happens is that Kurogane uses some ultimate technique. Kind of lame. It's still a good read for a sports manga. Just saying, though; for kendo manga, read this first, then Bamboo Blade. The negatives are washed away by reading the better manga. For Weekly Shonen Jump, they should have kept this manga up. It would have been a lot better, but it's still good as it is now. |

Kyuuketsuki no Uruwashiki Kekkon
This manga is a beautifully crafted work with three loosely connected short romance stories. The premise is a bit boring. We've all seen vampire-human love relationships, so this falls a bit flat. The story is pretty well-told. I like the little connections in between each short story, and as a result feels like it's flowing smoothly. The characters are easily the worst part about this manga. Every single character is had to develop due to getting a maximum of maybe 60 pages to develop. I understand the restriction, but they were so boring that I decided to ignore their cheesy decisions and enjoy the story for what it was. Even with these negatives, it's all mostly cleared up with the beautiful artwork. Seriously, almost every single frame looks like it should be in a museum. The drawings are detailed and breathtaking to look at. All in all, this manga certainly wasn't great, but it's far from bad. It's actually quite good. I feel that if this was a bit longer and the characters were more developed, this could grow into a much better series. Alas, we got this product, but it's still worth the read. |

Harem, much? I like harems, but this was a bit dumb. TWGOK was fine because it wasn't constant, but seeing this certain harem was a bit dumb. Too much traveling, too many zany plotlines. Still emotionally moving and comedic to a teeth. |

LOL, a manga based on a somewhat unknown game was interesting. The art was fine, and the story was interesting. Characters have no meaning. Only the main characters got developed. Everyone else was just... there. |

Magico
This manga was heart-warming to the core. Beautiful romance in an adventure series. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy settings, but this was strangely addictive to read. The world of magic is really cool in this manga. The action sequences are jaw-droppingly awesome. Everyone has some sort of ability that's interesting, but some abilities are there for one arc only, which makes them throwaway. Characterization is near-flawless. My problem is the use of one-shot characters. Sure, they come back at the end, but that's not the case here. One time only characters are really dumb to use. The art was wacky but Jump-esque. The characters all looked fine but not amazing. All together, Magico is a manga series for people interested in romance and action-adventure mixtures. A lot of symbolism to marriage as well. Read this manga if you have time; it's worth it the whole way. |

Not as good as the anime, that's for sure. Still, gave me a good look at the dark side of magical girls. Best part was Kyubey's change. Loved it. If it was longer, I'd enjoy it. Each chapter being an episode was not a good idea. Originality, much? |

Medaka Box
This manga is Haruhi Suzumiya, shounen fight-style. Literally the same thing, but still really good. I liked Medaka Box. The premise was interesting, art was great, and the characters were prominent. Problem is the story. Why turn a simple manga about helping people with requests into a battle oriented manga? Still good, but a bit questionable. |

Girl stuck on guys hand. WTF. One of the most interesting premises for romance manga I've seen. It's really interesting, and I was caught in reading it. The problem is the plot combined with the characters. Characters are really one dimensional and the plot loops around LOVE. Kind of dumb, but interesting. Liked it. |

SCARY, man... The story is really good, and the art was dark but refreshingly bright in the happier moments. Ending was the best plot twist I've seen yet. The only problem are the antagonists. Super easy to throw away. Still, they put up a good fight. Try it out. You'd like it if you enjoy thriller. |

NHK ni Youkoso!
This manga does a great job of exploring the culture of Japan, mainly hikikomoris. The story was whacky, but in a good way. Each situation that occurs all revolves around the mental states of each and every single character. They all have something in their head that makes the plot diverge from what would normally happen. The crazy surprises in store make things all the more interesting. Art style isn't the best, but it's far from being terrible. I particularly enjoyed the art, mainly because it suited the dark atmosphere. An example would be the eyes; there's almost never an iris in everyone's eyes, instead replaced by a dark messy circle that visually represents mental issues. I feel like this art style really complements the manga, which is good, but I can see where people could find fault with it. The characters are amazingly great. My only problem is the very slow development. Take the main character Satou for instance. It takes the whole 40 chapters for him to escape his social withdrawal syndrome, and along the way he goes back and forth from being completely useless to being slightly useless. It's hilarious how he does this, but it's frustrating as well. Each character is also messed up mentally in some way, shape, or form. It makes sense for everyone to go crazy often because of that, and I like it. The purpose of the manga/novel was to make the secret "life" of Japan more prominent, such as Internet suicide and making ero-games. That purpose was definitely fufilled by each and every single fucked-up character (basically everyone). Welcome to the NHK is definitely a must read for anyone with the slightest interest in Japan. If you thought Japan was a almost perfect country, the devious subcultures within will change your mind. I haven't thought about these issues at all and it's intriguing for them to be brought to light by the adventures of a man with severely bad social withdrawal syndrome with his friend who's obsessed with making hentai games and a girl with a slight god complex. That much warrants Welcome to the NHK a read, and you won't be disappointed. |

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai!
This manga is really heartwarming to the core. I loved every second of reading it. The story plays out like a slice-of-life with a twist. The daily lives of a college kid taking care of three girls really makes things interesting for readers, and I enjoyed it. Characterization was pretty good. I liked Yuuta and the girls as characters because they were relatable. I mean, in a situation where your parents died. The only problem with characters I have is that final girl introduced in the end. The only reason for her was to give the story some kind of dumb closure. Art was very nice. I liked the emphasis on character details, like the hair or clothes, and maybe even the accessories everyone owned, like hair clips. Very detailed and nice to look at. My biggest gripe with Papakiki is the length. It's really short, and I wish it was longer. Nevertheless, we still got a great manga to read and it was worth it. |

Umm... it's interesting? Look, I think crossdressing is fine. But being given a face of the opposite gender is hilarious. Pretty funny manga, I liked the romantic bits especially. Seishun Forget!
Never thought I'd enjoy this manga so much. The premise was a bit sketchy at first, but it grew on me. Art style was a bit weird, especially with the white colored eyes. Romantic elements are astoundingly great. The ending was a good definitive end. Plot was crazy, in a good way. The initial situation is resolved by the halfway mark, then a new problem starts up. For a 20-chapter manga, that takes balls to write. Two arcs in a short time! It's a pretty good romance manga, and if you like twists on the romantic genre, this is a good short manga to sink your teeth into. |

Shibatora
This manga gives Case Closed a run for its money in terms of the mystery genre. The premise was a bit iffy on me at first, but I soon grew to love the story arcs that make the mysteries of Shibatora. It was also a great pleasure to try and guess the outcomes of the arcs, but the plot twists really kept things unpredictable. That's another thing; the plot twists done in Shibatora are done so elegantly, you won't believe it when you read the scene. Characters are some of the most amazing characters I've seen. While some are one-shot/throwaway characters, nearly the whole cast becomes recurring characters throughout the manga. It's a near flawless execution of characterization. The character development is perfectly captured as well. Each juvenile Shibata deals with grows and learns to accept their wrongdoings. It's close to inspirational like GTO, and that's pretty sweet. The art was also really good. It didn't stick out to me as much as most modern series, but it looked presentable and not ugly by any means. One thing I had a bone to pick with was the ending sections. It got pretty dark, completely different than the beginning which had loads of comedy. Still, I enjoyed the intense drama; its was quite exhilirating. This manga was a blast of fun. I never enjoyed mystery so much since reading Q.E.D., and that was a pretty good mystery series. Shibatora would have to be my favorite mystery series out there (as of 5/29/13). The story is great, and characters are memorable, the art was nice to look at, and I certainly enjoyed myself. You have to give this manga a read if you absolutely enjoy mysteries and drama. |

Soul Eater
Soul Eater was a very fun read for me. The story was really wacky, just like the art style. They complimented each other nicely, and the story as a whole turned out better than expected. The concept of black blood and other abilities were very interesting. Characters in this manga ranged from very boring minor characters to some of the best main cast I've seen in a while. The relationship between meisters and their weapons just intrigue me, how there's a communal relationship. Maka and Soul have a friendly bond, while Black Star and Tsubaki are more like an oddball pairing. This was easily the best part of Soul Eater. As a whole, I enjoyed Soul Eater quite a bit. It was an interesting shonen that used the same cliches as other ones, but had a universe so interesting that it just became a standout experience. Read it for a lot of action, comedy, and the occasional emotional moment. It'll be worth it. |

This turned out to be a good mix of comedy and action with little to none romance. Not bad. I enjoyed some of the characters. Again, with only 5 chapters, I understand the restrictions, and by the end I still felt a slight development in everyone. The ending was bittersweet; it was ambiguous and Paramount, but left a satisfying feeling. Story was a bit boring. It was all fights and no romance, with plenty of comedy to boot. I feel like more romance to balance out the action would have worked. Comedy as a second priority behind action and romance would have also worked. Together, these points make a neither good nor bad manga. It was genuinely an enjoyable experience, and if it one of two volumes longer, this might have been a great series to read. Nevertheless, still read it for laughs and some interesting scenes. |
