Akame ga Kill!
1: Not a very good first episode. It looks like White Fox is sticking to the manga very faithfully but the direction (how long they hold certain shots, etc.) is off. That and the production values leave something to be desired.
4: It's unfortunate. The script is pretty Japanese-y, what with idioms and shuffled word order. Furthermore, I can often tell from the tone that we're not getting the exact translation. Maybe the actual script doesn't suck this bad. |

1: It's funny how I'm watching so many shows but they're all different and good in their own way.
2: It's like they took all my favorite voice actresses and threw them all into one show. Also, this is the second HanaKana trap this season. Is that a thing now? Also2, so each of the girls represents one of the characters in the game (mage, ninja, summoner, bishop, etc.) or something? 3: The trope coverage is so comprehensive, it's almost scary. And, if the ED is any indicator, there are still a number of characters we haven't met yet. 4: Holy fuck that was terrible. |

2: That backing track with the rap is annoying.
3: More terrible OST. The actual episode had potential but ended up being pretty stupid, nonsensical, contradictory, and anticlimactic. Oh well. Next episode looks potentially interesting. 4: Isn't this show supposed to be good? Pointless, boring, cringe-inducing dialogue that goes nowhere, develops nothing, and contributes nothing to... anything. Throw in bland, one-off characters, a Mary Sue, pointless fanservice, lacking animation, and the usual awful OST and you've got... whatever this is. 5: I don't see how this is any better than a shounen. 6: Fuuuck this is bad. So much explaining and narrating. I imagine this would work a lot better as a LN. 7: Oh great. More awful animation and shounen tropes. |

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei
1: Where do I even start with this one? The MC is Kyousuke from Oreimo, the imouto is Ayase (Oreimo) / Azuki (Bakuman), Shibata is the typical, bumbling Satou Satomi character, Chiba is Youko from Kinmoza, the seitokai buchou is HanaKana, the ED is the OP from SAO (both by LiSA), and both the setting (your typical magical high school) and the dialogue (sophomoric, faux-intellectual, edgy noise) are straight out of some fanfic. And yet... it didn't seem all that bad. The fight scene was pretty cool, too.
2: It's reminiscent of Death Note and Accel World and not in the best of ways. 4: This just keeps getting worse but somehow it's still interesting enough to keep me watching. Maybe I should just pick up the LNs instead... |

2: Quite a bit better than the first episode... until the very end. There's a good bit in the middle where one of the Enforcers (?) gets mad at Akane because she had a choice in her occupation, whereas he was enslaved from a very early age. Unfortunately, it's followed by an overly dramatic scene with Kougami and then a fucking awful transition into the ED. That transition may be constant going forward, now that I think about it. Hm, we'll have to wait and see.
