The official website of the Nakayoshi magazine announced on Monday that Tokyo Mew Mew manga artist Mia Ikumi died due to subarachnoid hemorrhage on March 7.

Ikumi debuted with Superdoll Rika Chan in Nakayoshi, which ran from 1998-1999. She and Reiko Yoshida began Tokyo Mew Mew in the same magazine in August 2000 and ended in December 2002. Kodansha published the manga in seven volumes between February 2001 and April 2003.

The duo launched the two-volume Tokyo Mew Mew à La Mode manga sequel in March 2003 and concluded it in December that year. The Tokyo Mew Mew: 2020 Re-Turn♡ manga ran from December 2019 to February 2020.

Studio Pierrot adapted the manga into a 52-episode television anime that aired from Spring 2002 to Winter 2003. 4Kids Entertainment licensed and dubbed the first 26 episodes.

Tokyo Mew Mew New ♡, the new anime adaptation by Yumeta Company and Graphinica, will begin airing in July 2022.

Tokyopop published the manga and its sequel in English from 2003–2006. Kodansha Comics relicensed the title in North America and published all nine volumes in four omnibuses.
