The light novel Baka No Test is widely considered one of the greatest light novels of all time: at least consistently in many top 10 lists. The adaption, despite underwhelming sales numbers, is actually a pretty decent anime thanks to the director Oonuma, who spent a long time studying under the legendary Akiyuki Shinbo, learnt a few of his tricks while having some different personality to himself.

It is one of the best-produced comedy anime with lovable characters, perfect delivery of comedy, and cute aesthetics.

I watched this again last year and was blown away by how well it is compared to what I remembered. I think it's partly because it is made in the high-school-harem era, and many good writers and production teams do them for the popularity. Nowadays most high-school-harem stories are bad, and it's pretty fun to go back and rewatch the old shows in the genre.

One of the several unfortunate situations where the great source material is ruined by a terrible director who doesn't know how to direct a comedy. Very bad comedic timing and poorly use of music.
