Manga 'Kingdom' Receives Live-Action Film

Commemorating the release of the 50th volume shipping on April 19, author Yasuhisa Hara announced a live-action film for his Kingdom manga on Sunday. Hara also met the production staff and cast, and praised their overall effort.
The historical drama series, which is set in China's Warring States period, began serialization in Shueisha's Young Jump in 2006 and shipped its 49th volume on January 19, placing first in Oricon's weekly rankings with 365,230 sold units. The series also frequents in Oricon's yearly rankings; selling over six million units in 2017 and 2016. Kingdom is expected to have over 35 million copies in circulation after the release of volume 50. In 2013, the manga won the Grand Prize in the 17th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Awards.
Studio Pierrot adapted the manga into two seasons, which aired in Summer 2012 and Summer 2013, respectively. Funimation licensed the series in North America and shipped both seasons on DVD in January and March 2016.
The manga received a live-action commercial in 2016 to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
