Rape, rape and more rape. Why does so much hentai have this fucking demon rape in it? I kind of liked the horror aesthetic sometimes and, uhhh... well, nothing else really. The horror story was mediocre and the god damn rape is kind of unforgivable.
There's a fuckin' creepy guy who faps to girls while they change and takes advantage of a girl who's just been bloody raped. He's like 'haha naaah you're just imagining it lol. anyway I fancy you' and it's just the worst depiction of trauma 'recovery' I've ever seen in anime. In episode 2 the viewer is encouraged, at the end of the day, to sympathise with a rapist. The way it deals with a topic as sensitive as rape is just disgusting. I know porn isn't exactly known for it's well-written stories, but this is just kind of on another level. |

Datenshi-tachi no Kyouen
After seeing both this and The Satisfaction, I am convinced that director and writer Kumazaki Satoru is one sick motherfucker. Some mafia people torture and sexually abuse members of some family, including a young girl. Graphic scenes ensue. Then the young girl brutally kills everyone. What kind of person cooks this shit up? Much like The Satisfaction, this is darkly fascinating; it gives me similar vibes to fucked up underground black metal. It's so primitive, so obscure, and so genuinely horrifying to the core. One of the only things that's so uncomfortable I've had to skip forward at points.

The Satisfaction
I don't think I've ever seen anything as horrifying as this. Rape is unfortunately pretty common in hentai, but for the most part it is 'mild' (questionable consent rather than pure violence) or heavily fantasised (e.g. tentacle/demon stuff) and hence easier to detach from. But this is on a whole other level. A girl is kidnapped, tied up and abused by an incredibly creepy man. Unlike more modern hentai, it's difficult to determine what this is supposed to be doing. It's obviously meant to be sinister and awful (that MUSIC), so can it be understood as porn? Or does it function more as horror? It's erotic fiction, but in the early days of home video it seems like creators were experimenting with the boundaries of their newfound freedom, focusing on the darkest, most objectionable topics they could think of, rather than on pure eroticism/pornography. And the centrality of bizarre, violent narratives is the legacy we're left with. The difficulty of the material and the context leaves me unsure whether I should applaud them as horror creators or denounce them as porn creators for creating something so disgusting and unsettling. I lean towards the latter.
EDIT: Increasing the score of this (from 1 to 7!) because I like it more the more I think about it. I don't know whether I should love it or hate it. Bizarre and fascinating. |

This is so creepy and strange. Especially episodes 1 and 3, but 2 has its moments too. I liked the trippy elements; this kind of experimental animation is what I want to see more of. The loli stuff, however, is kind of unforgivable. Incredibly uncomfortable. Although maybe that's an essential part of the bizarre experience of watching this monstrosity?

Utsukushiki Sei no Dendoushi Reirei
Episode 1: A perfectly good yuri thing ruined by involving men. Well, maybe 'perfectly good' is pushing it a bit (or a lot), but ugh, that's annoying. There's some stupid heteronormative subtext, in which the guy is to be pitied because the object of his love is a lesbian and doesn't love him back. And lesbian relationships are depicted as based on trickery. Ikuko is told 'look, he's willing to do all these things for you! He's loved you for years!' and this is supposed to compel her to love him? That's pretty awful. In the end she realises this guy is the one for her, and the erasure of her identity is complete. Of course, really this just means she's bisexual, and bisexual people (as such) need representation too, but this is not the way to go about it. A person in a negatively portrayed homosexual relationship 'developing' into being in a more 'pure' heterosexual one is not good representation.
Episode 2: Ah, a gay panic joke. Can't say I expected any more from this show. Also, gross tentacle rape. And then it totally sexualises this guy's issues with his mother, as he sucks the goddess girl's breasts and she says such charming lines as, 'How long you have yearned for your mother's sweet milk' and 'That's it! With this act you grow from child to man'. It's super weird, but also kind of amusing. The guy is turned into water, and feels and watches his girlfriend naked. He even acknowledges it's 'kinda like rape' (except there's no 'kinda' about it) but the goddess girl is like, 'Nah lol'. But it's a happy ending! The girl, of course, realises the error of her ways and decides to go out with Satoshi (again) because now he's more MANLY and less of a WIMP BITCH. All in all...complete garbage. And not just normal garbage, but that rare type of garbage that is just incredibly troubling in the ideas and subtext it relies on. |
